The Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMCS) Advanced Processing Systems Business pushes the boundaries of innovation.  It redefines the leading edge of exotic new technologies and drives advancements in the sciences.  One of our most challenging new fields is Transformational Computing, which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems.

Our team is chartered with providing the skills to transform computing beyond Moore’s Law, advancing development of computer architectures, processing/memory subsystems, and large-scale high-performance computing systems.  You will be part of a team alongside a broad array of scientists and engineers working to make these processing solutions a reality.

The candidate will contribute to the architecture of a high-performance processor using Northrop Grumman’s superconducting ASIC technology. This includes the design of the individual processing elements as well as the architecture of the high-performance network that will be used to tie the processing elements together.

Designs, develops, modifies and evaluates digital electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for digital electronic equipment and other hardware systems. Determines design approaches and parameters. Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests, and evaluates results. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. May also review vendor capability to support product development.

This position is located in Linthicum, MD or Beavercreek, OH.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Computer Science or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline

  • 9+ years of digital design/ engineering experience using (7+ years with an MS degree; 4+ years with PhD)

  • Server CPU architecture, logic design, and verification

  • Modern architectural techniques regarding performance, power & reliability of modern microprocessors.

  • Knowledge of PCIe, Ethernet or Infiniband networks.

  • Software and hardware interactions.

  • High level language programming and experience in Linux/Windows environments.

  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or comparable engineering discipline

  • Additional Desired Qualifications (One or more)

    • Understanding of microprocessor architecture concepts including cache architecture, system level coherency, shared virtual memory, network-on-chip, on-die fabrics, network protocols, and related computer components.

    • Familiar with System Verilog design coding and verification.

    • FPGA methodologies are a plus.

    • Experience with parallel programming concepts, performance and energy modeling frameworks such as M5, Sniper, Pin, etc. is a plus.

    • Familiar with parallel and network-based programming libraries such as socket programming, MPI, OpenMP, POSIX threads.

    • The candidate must have excellent analytic and communication skills and be able to prepare data for presentations or written reports and presenting the data to a group or customers.

    • The candidate should be motivated, self-directed and able to work effectively both independently and in a team

Salary Range: $139,700.00 - $209,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
