The Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC) of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an EHS Engineer to join our Environmental, Health, Safety, and Fire Protection team at the Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL) site in Linthicum, Maryland. The selected applicant will be responsible for successfully implementing and maintaining all safety related programs and supporting occupational health and environmental programs. The candidate must be a strong team participant, have excellent communication skills, and be resourceful.

ATL designs, manufactures, and tests semiconductor products for internal and commercial production customers as well as emerging technology programs. Northrop Grumman's ATL semiconductor foundry is a unique capability supporting a range of production microelectronic devices (Silicon, Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, and Silicon Carbide) and providing leading-edge technology development in Superconducting Electronics and SLCFET. Our devices enable a number of Northrop Grumman's ground-based radars, avionic radars, and space systems. 

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Develops, implements, and maintains environmental compliance programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and internal policies.

  • Maintains and performs tasks for the following environmental compliance programs: hazardous waste and other industrial waste management for a large quantity generator, wastewater, low-level radioactive waste management, Spill Prevention Controls and Countermeasures (SPCC), stormwater, air permitting, Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) 312/313 reporting, Underground and Aboveground Storage Tanks (UST/AST), pollution prevention, and sustainability.

  • Collaborates with site leadership and functional organizations to continuously improve the culture, awareness and accountability in support of EHS programs.

  • Partners with engineers, scientists, and management to support the integration of EHS into the design of new or altered processes and operations and building construction projects. 

  • Reviews and approves new tool installation and construction plans for EHS aspects.

  • Provides timely and accurate submission of necessary reports to internal stakeholders, electronic databases and regulatory agencies.

  • Reviews and interprets existing and proposed environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations to determine applicability and impact to site. 

  • Conducts near miss and incident investigations and partners with stakeholders to identify and implement corrective/preventive actions.

  • Participates in regulatory agency and internal inspections and implements actions necessary to meet regulatory requirements.

  • Writes and updates EHS plans and procedures with focus of environmental compliance.

  • Performs in-person and develops online EHS training for employees and management focused on environmental compliance programs.

  • Oversees equipment/facility disposition and decontamination projects. 

  • Supports the site’s health, safety, and fire protection programs.

The position can be filled at a Level 3 or 4.

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental compliance or related experience; or a Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience in environmental compliance or related experience.

  • Experience with managing various environmental compliance programs such as Spill Prevention Controls and Counter Measures (SPCC), wastewater, hazardous waste, stormwater, air, Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), Underground and Aboveground Storage Tanks (UST/AST), Pollution Prevention, Department of Transportation (DOT), Sustainability.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.

  • (U.S. Citizenship required). 

Basic Qualifications for Level 4:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 8 years of experience in environmental compliance or related experience; or a Master’s Degree with 6 years of experience in environmental compliance or related experience.

  • Experience with managing various environmental compliance programs such as Spill Prevention Controls and Counter Measures (SPCC), wastewater, hazardous waste, stormwater, air, Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), Underground and Aboveground Storage Tanks (UST/AST), Pollution Prevention, Department of Transportation (DOT), Sustainability.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.

  • (U.S. Citizenship required). 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in environmental engineering.

  • Experience in conducting compliance inspections

  • Experience in conducting in-person training and developing online training for various environmental compliance related topics to various audiences.

  • Experience with supporting EHS programs for semiconductor operations.

  • Experience in interacting with a union labor workforce.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point programs.

  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, Tableau, and Confluence.

  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

Salary Range: $95,800.00 - $143,600.00Salary Range 2: $119,200.00 - $178,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
