Why you will Love this role?
ICEYE is seeking a Senior AIT Payload Engineer to take full technical ownership of the radar payload subsystem, from early design influence through qualification, production ramp-up, and operational deployment. As the most mission-critical subsystem, the radar payload defines the core imaging capabilities of our satellites.
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that the entire radar chain, including signal generation, amplification, RF routing, and antennas, is manufacturable, testable, and ready for scalable production. You will play a key role in bridging design and manufacturing, helping to deliver high-performance payloads that meet mission objectives.
What will you do in this role?
- Act as the key interface between Engineering and Production for all payload-related matters
- Participate in project kickoff and key design reviews (PDR, CDR, PRR)
- Define test strategies and documentation to support payload integration and verification
- Oversee the transfer of the payload subsystem into production, ensuring seamless integration and performance
- Provide Tier 2 technical support during production and assist in resolving payload-related issues
- Lead root cause analysis and coordinate design updates to improve system quality and manufacturability
- Continuously close the loop with design teams to drive long-term improvements in scalability and reliability
- Operate in a hands-on, system-aware role that requires deep expertise in:
- RF systems and signal integrity
- Firmware-controlled hardware
- Complex hardware integration workflows
Requirements
What will you need to be successful in this role?
- 7+ years of relevant industry experience
- Strong background in RF systems and high-frequency signal chains
- Experience working with firmware-controlled hardware (e.g., FPGAs, bootloaders, configuration flows)
- Understanding of payload-level verification methods, including RF performance, functional, and environmental testing
- Experience in satellite or high-reliability hardware integration, testing, or manufacturing environments
- Ability to translate complex design data into scalable and repeatable production processes
- Hands-on mindset, with experience debugging and validating high-complexity electronics
- System-level awareness of how the payload interacts with the rest of the spacecraft
- Familiarity with engineering design and production readiness reviews (PDR, CDR, PRR or similar)
- Clear communication skills for interfacing between design, AIT, and production teams
- Proactive attitude toward continuous improvement and pushing toward higher levels of manufacturing readiness (MRL9)
