Job description
At CesiumAstro, we are developers and pioneers of out-of-the-box communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We take pride in our dynamic and cross-functional work environment, which allows us to learn, develop, and engage across our organization. If you are looking for hands-on, interactive, and autonomous work, CesiumAstro is the place for you. We are actively seeking passionate, collaborative, energetic, and forward-thinking individuals to join our team.
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Propulsion Systems Engineer II with experience in the design and validation of rocket engine configurations and functional layouts, including flow schemes (P&ID) development and engine cycle simulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in R&D of liquid rocket engines and propulsion systems for various applications, combined with practical experience in experimental development and testing, as well as corresponding system modeling and analysis.
This role involves close collaboration with an international R&D team to define requirements from the launch vehicle (LV) level down to individual components and subsystems, and to optimize the design and performance of the overall engine or propulsion system.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define the overall concept of Liquid Rocket Engines and Propulsion Systems, including the interaction and integration of subsystems; develop and justify related P&ID diagrams.
- Perform conceptual and detailed performance calculations, cycle simulations and analysis to optimize engine parameters.
- Define, document, and maintain system and subsystem requirements.
- Participate in design trade studies and analysis of key engine components, including thrust chambers, turbopumps, valves, throttles, and associated subsystems.
- Perform engine cycle simulations and other mathematical modeling to support ground and flight testing. Perform analysis of test results.
- Design experiments and conduct hands-on testing to improve system models.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, structural engineers, and avionics engineers, to ensure the seamless integration of the liquid rocket engine with the overall LV design.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in aerospace rocket engine/propulsion system development.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Systems Engineering.
- Experience with typical rocket engine performance modeling tools (CEA, RPA, Redtop, Astra, etc.).
- Cycle simulation tool proficiency desired (Ecosimpro, LRES, Simscape, etc.).
- Experience with MATLAB for data analysis.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, SpaceClaim or similar CAD tools.
- Fluency in English.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Hands-on experience in liquid rocket engine and propulsion system development for aerospace applications.
- Understanding of launch vehicle key subsystems and their associated performance parameters.
- Experience with propulsion system test campaigns and data analysis.
- Proficiency in CAD software for propulsion system component design and integration.
