Inside Leonardo Space Division we are looking for a Physical/Numerical Modelling (Meteo/Climate Data Handling) based in Roma plant.
Job Responsibilities:
Developing and implementing physical and numerical models for meteorological and climate applications
Handling, processing, and analyzing large meteorological and climatological datasets
Performing statistical analyses and validation of climate model outputs against observational data
Conducting simulations using numerical weather prediction (NWP) and climate modelling tools
Ensuring data quality control, management, and integration from various meteorological sources
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support climate risk assessments and environmental impact studies
Preparing technical documentation, scientific reports, and presentations of modelling results
Providing technical expertise and training to team members on climate data analysis methodologies and numerical modelling techniques.
Education:
Master's Degree or PhD in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, Physics, Environmental Science, or related fields
Preference will be given to candidates holding a PhD.
Seniority:
Junior/Expert: 0-5 years.
Preference will be given to Master Thesis on subjects crossed to specific key competencies (see below).
Key Competencies:
Strong expertise in numerical modelling software (e.g., WRF, COSMO, ECMWF models)
Advanced skills in handling large-scale meteorological datasets (NetCDF, GRIB formats)
Proficiency in statistical analysis tools and programming languages (Python, R, MATLAB)
Experience with High Performance Computing (HPC) environments for running numerical simulations
Knowledge of data visualization tools for climate data interpretation (e.g., Panoply, NCL, CDO)
Experience in integrating EO forecast/multi-temporal data (meteo-climate data, LST) in simulation environment
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in data quality assessment and validation procedures
Excellent communication skills for collaboration with interdisciplinary research teams
Ability to independently manage projects and deliver results within tight deadlines
