Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Director, Mission Strategy to join the Strategy and Mission Solutions (SMS) team within the Airborne Multifunction Sensors Division. The selected individual will be responsible for supporting the SMS team by highlighting technology discriminators across the Division portfolio via experiments, flight test bed demonstrations and modeling, simulation and analysis studies. 

We are looking for an established technologist, and proven leader with a documented record of success with warfighting customer credibility and program development experience. The ability to professionally interact with a variety of people up and down the value stream both internally and externally is extremely important while being able to think strategically in developing mission relevant approaches to investments and future strategies. This role actively interacts with mission engineering, strategy, technology working groups, operations, digital engineering and competitive design functions.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as mission-focused strategist aligning across the AMS portfolio with technology discriminators, warfighting value, and programmatic alignment to optimize delivery of operational capabilities on relevant timelines.

  • Maintain close liaison with DoD operational and developmental test organizations to align requirements with available technology insertions, while also bringing back mission-focused awareness for company programmatic teams.  Provide concept of operations briefings to programmatic teams across the division.

  • Integrate teams across functional boundaries serving as a facilitator, coach and trainer to critically assess products, capabilities, technology, business models, and management approaches.

  • Oversee and facilitate the execution of technology and full-system demonstrations in the flying test bed fleet to include Northern Edge, Gray Flag, Black Flag, and Valient Shield experimentation venues.  Closely align with the Communications team to provide internal and external messaging vignettes of capability enhancements and discriminating technology advancements.

  • Oversee the AMS Division modeling, simulation and analysis efforts and the collaboration with partner company’s environments like the Boeing Virtual Warfare Center and Lockheed Strategic Studies Group, as well as the various NGAS analysis groups.

  • Advise senior management on mission strategies, and recommendations on mission engineering approaches to optimize the success of these strategies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree AND 12 or more years of related professional/military experience OR a master’s degree AND 10 or more years of related professional/military experience

  • Must have a strong technical and mission system programmatic background

  • Experience in technical strategy development and execution, specifically in developing compelling outcomes via modeling, simulation and analysis results, as well as system demonstrations.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience – either leading direct reports, technical program teams, or strategy efforts.

  • Impeccable leadership and communication skills

  • Results oriented, winner mentality

  • Strong understanding of national strategy, military roles and missions, organization, enterprise process and business contacts

  • Knowledge of the DoD acquisition and planning/programming processes

  • US citizenship required

  • Must have a minimum of an active DoD Top Secret clearance; OR DoE equivalent (active clearance is required to be considered)

Preferred Qualifications

  • SCI Clearance or Eligible

  • Master’s Degree or MBA

  • Knowledge of and relationships with key mission systems customers in the Department of Defense, National Security, and Civilian communities

  • Experience with the DOD and National Security acquisition processes including supporting processes such as requirements development and budgeting

  • Technical fluency. Ability to understand and engage in discussion about space-based mission capability, system architecture, and technology. 5+ years developing, maintaining, and executing strategic plans.

Salary Range: $188,600.00 - $282,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
