Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to support the National Team – System Engineering (NT-S) program. Position Overview:

  

The selected Staff Systems Engineer responsibilities will include the support of the NT-S program as an individual contributor/task lead on the Integrated Discrimination Team. This role is responsible for developing analysis products that directly support the development and definition of the Missile Defense System Specification on behalf of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

Essential Functions:  

  • Individual will provide modeling and simulation development for radar tracking algorithms and conduct performance analyses and trade studies related to tracking functions for the Missile Defense Agency.
  • Individual will develop and execute medium-to-high fidelity, object-oriented MATLAB models and simulations (M&S) which include sensing phenomenology, signal processing, detection, tracking, and discrimination functionalities. Individual will provide subject matter expertise into radar tracking and sensor fusion and coordinate analysis activities and products with functional group leads, senior management, and government personnel responsible for executing analysis tasks.
  • The individual will document analysis results in reports and briefings to be presented to the Missile Defense National Team (MDNT) and Missile Defense Agency (MDA).
  • Duties may include leading small teams of engineers in the development of products.
  • The position is in Huntsville, AL and is located on a customer site at the Boeing Jetplex facility.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 12 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 10 years of related experience, or 8 years of experience with a PhD.
  • Individual must have a strong technical background in radar tracking system methodologies including but not limited to state estimation (e.g., EKF, IMM), detection-to-track association (e.g., GNN, MHT), and general track management.
  • Individual must have the ability to model aspects of tracking systems within a MATLAB simulation environment and support tracking-related analyses.
  • Individual must have the ability and willingness to learn new physical and mathematical concepts.
  • Individual must possess good communication skills and can work both independently and in a team environment as either an individual contributor or task lead.
  • Ability and willingness to work on a customer site.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Tracking systems within elements of the Missile Defense System, including sensor fusion techniques; tracking algorithms for both radar and electro-optical sensors.
  • Electromagnetic attack experience.
  • Creation of novel tracking system algorithms, and/or algorithm optimizations.
  • Configuration management tools
  • Object-oriented programming
  • Conducting system of systems analysis and trade studies.

Salary Range: $163,200.00 - $244,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
