Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems is seeking a Sr. Staff Systems Engineer to support the National Team – System Engineering (NT-S) program. Position Overview:

  

The selected Sr. Staff Systems Engineer responsibilities will include the support of the NT-S program as the NT-S SC&R Performance Analysis Lead. This role is responsible for the technical quality of analysis conducted by a team of engineers. These analysis products directly support the development and definition of the Missile Defense System Specification on behalf of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

Essential Functions:  

  • Lead a team of analysts to develop, benchmark, and utilize medium-level fidelity physics-based simulations to conduct analysis and develop requirements for integrated multi-phenomenology sensors, battle management command control & communications, and weapon systems for the Missile Defense Agency.
  • Guide analysis and tool development planning, guide requirements product development, and represent the National Team to Missile Defense Agency to internal and external stakeholders in reviews and technical interchanges. 
  • Ensure technical quality of performance requirements and analysis products using team Subject Matter Experts. 
  • Facilitate expansion Model Based Systems Engineering capabilities including descriptive an analytical modeling.
  • The position is in Huntsville, AL and is located on a customer site at the Boeing Jetplex facility.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 14 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 12 years of related experience, or 10 years of experience with a PhD.
  • Ability to assume a technical leadership role leading large multi-skill analysts and modeling and simulation developers. 
  • Individual must have a strong technical background in using numerical modeling and simulation (M&S) using a high-level programming language such as MATLAB, or similar language environment to develop system performance requirements. 
  • Individual must be able to demonstrate knowledge of building and/or analyzing M&S for M&S for integrated missile defense systems including subsystems such as   EO/IR sensors, RF/Radar sensors, kill vehicles, missiles/interceptors, threats & countermeasures, target discrimination, or command and control (e.g., C3I, C4I, etc.). 
  • Candidate must demonstrate ability to think critically to develop and capture concepts in technical papers, presentations, and discussions. Individual must possess good oral and written communication skills and have experience developing specification documents.
  • Ability and willingness to work on a customer site.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time to support business needs.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the Missile Defense System Specification.
  • Demonstrated experience modeling or simulating missile defense applications or similar domains (air combat, air defense, intercept of ballistic targets, intercept of non-ballistic targets, space vehicles, sub-orbital mechanics, countermeasure mitigation and discrimination, etc.). 
  • Knowledge of ballistic and advanced threat systems (e.g., aero-maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper-glide, countermeasures, etc.), a discriminator in selection.
  • Modeling and analysis experience in aspects of the missile defense system (e.g., Aegis Weapons Systems, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Next Generation Interceptor, Glide Phase Intercept (GPI), Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS), Fire Control, C2BMC, MDS sensors (EO/IR/RF), kill vehicles, interceptors, countermeasures, etc.).
  • Systems engineering experience with large, complex systems and use of descriptive and analytical models in a Model Based Systems Engineering environment. 

Salary Range: $179,600.00 - $269,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
