Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to support the National Team – System Engineering (NT-S) program. Position Overview:

  

The selected Sr. Principal Systems Engineer responsibilities will include the support of the NT-S program as an individual contributor on the SC&R Performance Analysis Team. This role is responsible for developing analysis products that directly support the development and definition of the Missile Defense System Specification on behalf of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

Essential Functions:  

  • Conduct a wide variety of tasks processing, maintaining, and utilizing threat missile systems data and tools for use in mathematical modeling and simulations of current and future integrated missile defense systems. 
  • Individual will also participate in the development, testing, managing (Configuration Control), documenting, updating, and benchmarking/anchoring of M&S tools to support system analysis tasks.
  • Individual will participate in technical meetings and communications with government threat system and analysis subject matter experts. 
  • Duties may also involve mathematical analysis of integrated missile defense system performance against missile threats including performance of IR and RF sensors, command and control and regional or homeland defense weapon systems.
  • The position is in Huntsville, AL and is located on a customer site at the Boeing Jetplex facility.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 6 years of related experience, or 4 years of experience with a PhD.
  • Individual must have a demonstrated technical background in numerical modeling and simulation using MATLAB. 
  • Must possess software development experience with high level languages such as C++, C#, Python or Java and experience with missile threat systems.
  • Candidate must demonstrate ability to think critically to develop and capture concepts in technical papers, presentations, and discussions. Individual must possess good oral and written communication skills. 
  • Capable of working in focused teams as an independent individual contributor.
  • Ability and willingness to work on a customer site.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience modeling or simulating threats for missile defense or similar domains (air combat, air defense, intercept of ballistic targets, intercept of non-ballistic targets, space vehicles, sub-orbital mechanics, etc.). 
  • Knowledge of ballistic and advanced threat systems ((e.g., aero-maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper-glide, countermeasures, etc.) is a discriminator in selection.
  • Additional discriminators include modeling and analysis experience in aspects of the Ballistic missile defense system (e.g., Aegis Weapons Systems, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Fire Control, C2BMC, BMDS sensors (EO/IR/RF), kill vehicles, interceptors, countermeasures, etc.), Electronic Attack and Protection, systems engineering experience with large, complex systems.
  • Experience with DOORS and/or MBSE/CAMEO tools and processes a plus.

Salary Range: $131,100.00 - $196,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
