Position Overview (Summary/Objective):
Our Student Program provides amazing opportunities to develop functional job skills and gain real-world experience and expertise. We offer spring, fall and year-round internships and co-ops in fields across the company, including engineering, finance, and business development.
Currently we are seeking a SUMMER INTERN in SPECIALITY ENGINEERING.
Responsibilities:
- Support the acquisition of materials for flight products by ensuring compliance to mission assurance requirements during End-Item Datapack Review process
- Research material properties and assist in development of requirements for high-reliability spaceflight materials including epoxies, tapes, mechanical hardware, etc
- Develop knowledge of industry testing methods and processes by assisting in our Reliability Lab. Common testing methods include SEM, X-Ray, FTIR, Instron Tensile/Compression, and hardness testing.
- Support M&P engineers with creation and reviews of As-Design and As-Built Parts, Materials, And Processes Lists.
- Participate in internal/external meetings related to Materials and Processes engineering topics
- Preparation of reports, memos, and presentations to explain Materials and Process qualifications or engineering changes
Basic Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Materials Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field
- Completed sophomore year of college
- Strong communication, teamwork, adaptability, and time management skills are required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience locating and understanding part specifications/data sheets
- Basic knowledge of material types, construction, usage, and failure analysis
- Experience working in a lab environment and familiarity with workplace safety

EHS/Environmental Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate, listen to, and interpret instructions, occasionally operate tools and/or machinery with hands and arms and remain stationary for extended periods of the time. The employee will use protective equipment when working with chemicals, move between workstations, reach, and replace equipment, and move items weighing up to 25 lbs.
