NorthStar is looking for Orbital Dynamics Engineer to contribute as a subject matter expert. She/He will be contributing various space situational awareness (SSA) tracking data processing and support to our product development team.  

 

Who you'll work with  

 
You will be joining a team of astrodynamics experts to research and develop Space Traffic Management related solutions for NorthStar’s product suite. 

 

You will work closely with the Space Information and Intelligence (SI2) multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, software developers and product owners based in Luxembourg, who is dedicated to developing innovative solutions for monitoring the space environment using multiple sources for observations and geospatial data. 


What you will do  

 

  • Monitor NorthStar product pipeline for contribution to client’s request.
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses and script development to provide orbit determination-based solutions to the clients. This includes initial orbit determination, state vector estimation, conjunction assessment, risk analysis, anomaly detection, and maneuver detection and characterization.
  • Support the development of NorthStar’s core SSA tools by providing inputs to product development priorities, while bringing in the expert inputs to product
  • Develop testing and validation procedures for making sure the tools are foolproof
  • Participate in processes and procedures for real-time operations
  • Support development of astrodynamics algorithms for SSA, SST and STM services.

 

 

What you bring to the table  

 

  • A minimum Master of Science Degree in Engineering, Science, or fields related to astrodynamics is required.
  • Experience/knowledge of orbital mechanics and estimation theory.
  • Experience/knowledge with code development in Java and scripting with Python (or equivalent scripting language).
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, to think independently and handle multitask environments.
  • You’re a strong communicator. You can adapt your communication style to different audiences and can translate complex information into simple words.

 

Nice-to-have skill sets

  • Experience working with space object navigation data.
  • Familiarity with Orekit or equivalent libraries.
  • Experience/knowledge of algorithm development, statistical analysis, database manipulation, and/or cloud computing.
  • Working with large data sets and familiarity with data visualization tools.
