Optical Engineer, based in Luxembourg
Odysseus Space is looking for a full-time optical engineer to develop its space and ground laser communication solution. The engineer will join our headquarters in Luxembourg. Fluency in English, extensive theoretical and hands-on experience in space optical engineering is required for the position.
About us
Odysseus Space opened in Luxembourg in 2019 and is developing its Cyclops™ laser communication solution to bring lightspeed connectivity from Space to ground. Starting from Low Earth Orbit, the company aims at connecting any point in the Solar System to the Earth. With Odysseus Space entering a new phase of product development, we are searching for motivated professionals to join our young & international team to work on the next-generation commercial products that will shape the space missions of tomorrow.
Responsibilities
• Design, manufacturing, testing and validation of ground and space optical systems for Cyclops interaction with the rest of the team.
• Design, manufacturing and testing of optical ground support equipment.
• Assembly, Integration and Testing of the terminal.
• Mechanical and thermal Modelling and Simulation.
• Preparation and participation in mechanical and thermal tests.
• Preparation of documentation for reviews.
The right candidate
• Holds a master’s degree in optical engineering or equivalent, with at least 8 year of experience.
• Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail and takes pride in high standard execution of tasks.
• Extensive experience with STOP analysis, sequential and non-sequential modes of ZEMAX OpticStudio.
• Experience building and operating optical benches with visible and NIR lasers, including implementation of laser safety, use of wavefront sensors and other optical instrument.
• Experience with lasers, APD, PIN and FPA detectors.
• Is familiar with Microsoft Office Suite and Teams or is able to get acquainted in a fast manner.
• Is an outstanding verbal and written communicator in English with great interpersonal skills.
• Has experience writing quality technical documentation.
• Is a reliable, autonomous and fun colleague to work with.
• Citizenship from a member state of both EU and NATO.
