GHGSat offers greenhouse gas detection, measurement, and monitoring services to industrial and government customers around the world. We use our own satellites and aircraft sensors, combined with third-party data, to help industrial emitters better understand, control, and reduce their emissions. 

 

As our satellite constellation and number of remote sensing instruments grow to meet increasing international demand for our services, we are looking for a data scientist to join the Science and Systems team. You will focus on applying computer vision and machine learning techniques to automate data processing. 

 

The Science and Systems team has a flexible work environment with the option for remote work, but we expect applicants to work partially out of one of our offices with a preference for our offices in Montreal or Ottawa, Canada. 

 

Key responsibilities 

  • Automate the processing of GHGSat data using machine learning techniques 
  • Design, train, and optimize machine learning models for image classification, object detection, and segmentation 
  • Rapidly prototype methods and techniques from scientific literature 
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify predictive features and insights 
  • Engage with a range of stakeholders, including domain experts and data validators to improve methodology and model performance 
  • Collaborate with software developers to deploy models and algorithms into  to production 

 

Essential skills and experience 

  • MSc or higher in physics, engineering, theoretical chemistry or biology, math, computational science or related fields 
  • Strong Python skills 
  • Ability to document and summarize key insights 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail 

 

Preferred skills and experience 

  • Knowledge of probability and statistics 
  • Experience with image processing and computer vision  
  • Experience applying machine learning techniques to complex real-world data  
  • Proficiency using Python machine learning libraries such as Pytorch, Tensorflow, and Sklearn 
  • Experience handling Remote sensing data 
  • Experience in collaborative software development (git) 
  • Experience using and building Docker containers
