The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is a multi-mission science and flight operations center for NASA’s flagship observatories, which include Hubble Space Telescope, the most celebrated space observatory in history. We also lead the science and mission operations for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST launched in 2021 and will perform parts of the science operations for the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus in Baltimore, Maryland.
The IT Division at STScI is seeking a Principal Project Manager who will be responsible for successfully leading and managing Information Technology and other business projects while working as part of a team in the Information and Technology Services Division (ITSD).

This position allows for hybrid work, with occasional on-site days. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to our local market. (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC & WV). This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Residence in order to meet ITAR requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The ideal candidate shall possess knowledge and experience in the following:
• Leading medium to large scale IT projects utilizing a waterfall, Agile or a hybrid framework throughout the lifecycle of the project.
• Portfolio, Program and Project Management
• Requirements Management
• Resource Management
• Risk Management
• Change Management
• Proficiency in Program and Project Management Tools
• IT processes

Candidate should possess the following "soft" skills:

• Demonstrated communication skills with ability to successfully communicate with a wide variety of staff members, such as technical staff, C-level leaders, visitors and   guests.
• Proven leadership skills
• Demonstrated evidence of excellent customer service
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems in real time
• Proven ability to collaborate with staff having diverse viewpoints, objectives and styles
• Proven ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
• Proven negotiation skills
• Adept at balancing multiple priorities and multi-tasking
• Ability to successfully work in high pressure situations
• Ability to successfully train, coach and mentor others

 Education/ Experience/Certifications:

Qualified candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Software Engineering with a minimum of six year’s project management experience in a formal IT organization.

PMI certification such as PMP, ACP and experience working across multiple subsystems is required, Agile Certifications preferred.

Substitution of additional relevant education or experience for stated qualifications may be considered.

Salary range is $145k - $156k. The starting position and salary are commensurate with education and experience.
