The heart of a spacecraft lies in its propulsion system, and that's why we, at The Exploration Company, are dedicated to developing our own cutting-edge Propulsion Systems ensuring the highest level of efficiency and reliability in our space endeavors.

We are seeking a talented and experienced Engine Controller Engineer to join our innovative team. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for the design, development, and testing of electronic hardware components, including electrical pump inverters at high power, as integral parts of the Rocket Engine Control System. You will collaborate closely with a diverse team of engineers (valves and pump designers, engine control engineer, GNC, Avionics…) to ensure the successful integration and operation of these critical hardware elements within our cryogenic Engine.

Key Responsibilities

As the Engine Controller Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
  • Design of the engine controller electrical architecture and PCB interfaces between main controller computer and engine subsystems, such as valves, pump inverters and sensors.
  • Manage make or buy decision on high-power electrical pump inverters and associated hardware components.
  • Work closely with Avionics Team, Flight Software and Engine Control engineers to ensure reliable operation of the engine during all flight phases.
  • Validate with HIL prototyping the engine controller system.
  • Develop and maintain hardware documentation, including design specifications, test procedures, and manufacturing documentation.

What we would love to see from you

  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in the design, development, and testing of high-power electrical systems, particularly motor drives, inverters, or power converters.
  • Strong understanding of power electronics principles, including semiconductor devices, gate drivers, and thermal management techniques.
  • Proficiency in electronic hardware design tools and software (KiCAD, Altium Designer, etc.).
  • Experience with motor control algorithms, sensor interfaces, and feedback control loops.
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation techniques.
  • Good understanding of safety-critical design practices, reliability engineering, and failure mode analysis.
  • Familiarity with radiation analysis and mitigation for electronic systems.
  • Understanding of space relevant standards (like ECSS, MIL-STD, NASA-HBK) and regulations.
  • Understanding of environmental aspects (Climatic and dynamics tests)
