About the Job

CONSTELLATION is looking for a Senior Telecommunications Payload Engineer to join the team in either our Toulouse or Ile-de France office.

As Senior Telecommunications Payload Engineer, you will drive the development of regenerative payloads for our satellite constellation, leading internal and external resources through the design, engineering manufacturing and operational phases of our projects. You will be responsible for the definition, design and development of the payloads and all of their subsystems, (including RF, processor, antennas, power and control), and responsible for ensuring correct interfaces between the payloads and the platforms to ensure that the requirements of the overall mission are met.


Your key responsibilities and tasks

  • Lead the team of payload engineers. This will include on the job training, resource planning, delegation, identification of skills gaps, and recruitment.

  • Develop the concepts and requirements of our payloads, working closely with the platform team and mission team to ensure compatibility with the overall mission.

  • Lead the payload requirement, interface, and configuration/change management activities throughout the project.

  • Take a lead role in the strategic make-or-buy decisions for the payload and its subsystems.

    • Lead the redaction of subsystem technical requirements.

    • Work with the project managers and supply chain managers to identify potential suppliers and partners.

    • Provide technical inputs and recommendations to the supplier selection processes.

  • Collaborate closely with the project, industrial and supply chain teams to ensure that project requirements (schedule, budget and quality) are met, and to prepare the satellite for mass production.

  • Lead the preparation of technical analyses, simulations, reports, trade-offs and recommendations as necessary to drive the development of the payloads and support the Mission engineering activities.

  • Lead the review of technical documentation from suppliers and participate in their project reviews.

  • Provide technical inputs for project reviews, proposals, funding applications and marketing materials.

  • Drive flat payload prototyping activities, from related test objectives definition to supply chain identification, in lab integration up to test execution

  • Support the AIT and industrial team after satellite design is completed.

  • Support the LEOP and operations team after satellite launch.
