Description

Vega and Space Rider Launch System and Engineering Manager, Flight Programmes, Directorate of Space Transportation.

Duties

Under the direct authority of the Head of Flight Programmes, you will be responsible for the technical coherence of the various Vega programmes and Space Rider. You will also be responsible for the execution of industrial activities for the launch system and ground segment in coordination with the relevant programme manager(s), and for the management of the Vega and Space Rider Integrated Programme Team engineering competences. 


You responsibilities will include:

  • managing the implementation of the Vega and Space Rider launch system activities and its coherence during development and exploitation;
  • managing the preparation of the Vega operational flights in accordance with the role assigned to ESA;
  • managing the technical activities for the adaptation of the Vega launch system to institutional payload, including the development of new adapters and dispensers, for example SSMS and VESPA and their evolutions; managing the engineering activities implemented in the framework of the Vega and Space Rider Integrated Programme Team;
  • coordination with Collective Launch Service Procurement for all activities relating to the VEGA Future Mission Team;
  • carrying out negotiations and administration of the industrial contracts relating to procurement under your responsibility;
  • coordinating with CNES CSG as relevant for the implementation of CSG-related activities;
  • defining and managing the resources needed to implement the activities under your responsibility. 

 

In the execution of your responsibilities, you will be supported by a team of lead engineers or engineers in addition to technical support resources from the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality (D/TEC),  which may be part of the core team or the matrix. Technical support may also be provided by national organisations.

 

You will also be responsible for identifying, assessing, managing and reporting the health and safety risks in your area of responsibility.

Education

A master's degree in engineering is required for this post.

Additional requirements

Proven experience in:

  • contract negotiation; 
  • the management of industrial activities; 
  • the elaboration of programme proposals, including support for declarations and implementing rules, to facilitate the initiation of new programmes;
  • proven experience of leading, motivating and developing a team of experts in a project environment;
  • the ability to provide strategic direction to the individuals and teams within the Project and to relate team objectives to the overall, evolving organisational goals and context;
  • the ability to drive performance and foster cooperation within and across teams throughout the organisation;
  • demonstrated excellent leadership, relationship management and communication skills, both oral and written;
  • a proven track record of representing the Agency’s interests to external interfaces;
  • excellent cognitive, analytical, delegation, planning and organisational skills;
  • the ability to anticipate problems, resolve complex issues and relate situations to their context;
  • the ability to make solution-oriented, pragmatic and timely decisions of a high standard and with integrity, and to support others, such as team members, upper management and other stakeholders, in this process.

 

People management experience is required. International experience is an asset, including outside your home country, as well as experience in diverse functional areas relevant to ESA activities.
