About the position
Satellogic is looking for a Comms/RF Engineer to design, maintain, and enhance our current satellite RF communications systems. This position requires proven expertise in RF design, solid experience with digital and mixed-signal solutions, and significant experience in designing full end-to-end communications systems. You will be joining a fast-paced, highly motivated team where collaboration and interaction are key.
About the team
The satellite platform team is responsible for the design of all satellite assemblies and definition of design methodologies. This includes being in charge of the design and engineering of the satellite communication systems, encompassing the bidirectional radio for telemetry and commands, and the payload data downlink. Fueled by the diverse profiles and backgrounds of our members, our team fosters a culture of continuous learning, consistently pushing the boundaries of what's possible in satellite technology.
Location
You will work flexibly remotely and in our Buenos Aires office.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and/or internationally to company offices, laboratories, client sites, potential clients, or suppliers as needed. This role will also require travel to our laboratory in Uruguay.
Responsibilities
- Drive RF circuit Detail-level design, implementation and validation of new satellite communication systems.
- Maintenance, troubleshooting and continuous improvement of the current communication systems (TT&C and Payload Data Download).
- Engage in practical laboratory work characterizing and measuring radio and antenna prototypes, with direct involvement in their rework and debugging.
- Analysis and simulation of communication systems, including link budget, reliability and performance.
About you
- Education: Electronic Engineer (or equivalent), with specialisation in RF or Telecommunications.
- At least 3 years of experience as a Telecommunications Engineer or RF hardware engineer in a high-tech environment.
- Proven experience in RF communication systems design, including heterodyne systems, up/down converters, high-frequency power amplifiers. Experience in the X-Band frequency range is highly desirable.
- Skilled in performing PCB reworks, including soldering, desoldering, and modifying circuit boards for prototyping, testing, or debugging.
- Strong hands-on experience with RF measurement techniques and laboratory equipment, including signal generators, Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), spectrum analyzers, and signal analyzers.
- Basic experience working with Keysight ADS and/or Cadence for all stages of RFIC design, including Harmonic Balance, S-Parameter, Transient and Envelope Simulation.
- Demonstrable experience with antenna measurement techniques and antenna design principles. Proficiency in the use of EM simulators (e.g. Ansys HFSS) is a plus.
- Good written and verbal communications skills in English.
- Flexible, able and willing to learn new things.
- Strong work ethic and drive to succeed balanced with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Desirable/Complementary Skills
- Basic experience with PCB design software, preferably Altium Designer.
- Familiarity with Linux OS.
- Experience working with microcontrollers.
- Experience in programming (C, Python) and code version control tools (git).
