Flight Programs Manager

Orbion is seeking a well-rounded individual to lead and execute customer flight programs for the delivery of spacecraft electric propulsion systems.  The ideal candidate is self-motivated and driven by a fast-paced, exciting, and collaborative work environment. This position is for an experienced professional who can lead programs and teams, manage customer interfaces and relationships, monitor subcontracts and procurements, analyze data, lead risk and opportunity management, maintain progress reports, and participate in contract negotiations.

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for company’s cost, schedule, and technical performance on customer contracts/orders.
  • Responsible for interfacing with all customers and managing customer relationships
  • Directs all program phases from inception through completion, including the work of employees assigned to the programs. from technical, development, manufacturing, and administrative areas.
  • Interfaces with customers on project specifications and requirements to ensure successful project scoping. 
  • Leadership of cross-functional teams by leveraging plans, schedules, budgets, designs, and procedures. 
  • Participates in the negotiation of contracts and contract scope changes.
  • Analyzes data and monitors programs to ensure adherence to contract scope of work, cost, schedule and technical specifications.
  • Develops, maintains, and presents plans and progress reports relating to business aspects of the project/program to internal executive leadership and customers.
  • Proactively identifies and addresses risks and develops solutions to problems which require critical thinking, creativity, and innovation to ensure the successful completion of projects/programs.
  • Manages vendors, when necessary, to support programs.
  • Work autonomously with limited oversight leading projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Must meet the definition of a United States Person.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or directly related degree. 
  • 5 years of experience in aerospace program management.
  • A solid understanding of applicable engineering principles, business practices, and experience working with hardware.
  • Willingness to travel on occasion (5%). 
  • Ability to collaborate in a team setting as well as be an active individual contributor.   
  • Great communication skills, technical depth, breadth, and passion will enable you to work effectively with cross functional (electrical, mechanical, software, system, test) teams. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in aerospace program management
  • Experience with government acquisition programs
  • Extensive experience in proposal preparation
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing environments
