As the lead developer of RF sensors for some of the most advanced systems in the U.S. arsenal, Northrop Grumman is a world leader in advanced sensor systems and design. These include radars for air dominance platforms (such as the F-22, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, F-16), bomber and strike programs (such as B-1B), airborne / maritime / ground-based surveillance missions (E-3 AWACS, E-7 MESA, TPS-80 G/ATOR, SEWIP Block 3 and UAV systems such as Global Hawk), as well as restricted programs and missions. Northrop Grumman’s Airborne Multifunction Systems (AMS) organization has a need for a Lead Systems Analyst supporting the integration and verification of the most advanced Electronic Warfare systems ever deployed on a Naval platform. Daily activities may consist of diving into the intricacies of test data, creating tools for powerful data transformation, driving data analysis activities through strategizing and planning with NG leadership, or developing key data analysis and testing strategies in collaboration with program and technical leadership.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to troubleshoot and analyze the performance of highly visible system capabilities alongside a team of talented EW engineers. This position offers exciting near-term challenges as well as long-term development through Northrop Grumman’s technical career paths.

This position requires up to 100% on-site work in the Linthicum/Baltimore, Maryland campus and an active final Secret clearance. Occasional travel up to 10% may be required.

Roles and Responsibilities

The selected Sr. Staff Lead EW Systems Analyst will support the Maritime Information and Electronic Warfare (MEIW) Operating Unit (OU) as an individual contributor/task lead spanning multiple Electronic Warfare programs within the MEIW OU portfolio, including SEWIP Block 3 and its variants, Long Endurance Electronic Decoy (LEED), Scaled Onboard Electronic Attack (SOEA), and upgrades. This role is responsible for leading and developing high-performing teams of data analysts and troubleshooting experts supporting Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Verification and Validation (V&V), Integration and Test (I&T), field tests, and major milestones.

Essential Functions:  

  • Collaborate with system test subject matter experts to ensure test objectives and test plans are aligned to data collection needs verifying system capability.
  • Guide the technical direction and execution of data analysis projects.
  • Provide expert technical guidance on data analysis methodologies, tools, and technologies.
  • Lead or consult with team members to explore test data and uncover insights that drive innovation and excellence.
  • Present analysis results to senior leaders and customers, highlighting the impact of the team’s work and driving decisions that advance system capability, stability, performance, and usability.
  • Support proposal and program plans to ensure applicable EA analysis activities are included in budget and schedule.
  • Conceptualize, define, construct, and lead the development of data analysis tools to transform data into actionable insights, advance system design, and improve analysis timelines.
  • Drive engineering rigor across the MEIW OU through the development and implementation of EA data analysis processes, standards, and best practices.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and oversee/perform Integration and Test (I&T) activities associated with the collection of data.
  • Collaborate with program and technical leadership to identify near and long-term analysis needs and develop and execute mitigative approaches supporting budget and schedule.
  • Collaborate with engineering management to develop future leaders by creating personalized and team-based learning through individual mentorship and group learning events.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 14 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 12 years of related experience, or 9 years of experience with a PhD.
  • 7+ years experience modeling, integrating, and/or testing of Electronic Warfare (EW)  systems spanning the EW kill chain from detect to engage.
  • 4+ years of experience analyzing Radio Frequency (RF) data at the I/Q level.
  • High proficiency developing tools / writing code using MATLAB to analyze RF data at the I/Q level. Must be able to demonstrate that past work products had tangible impact on program success.
  • 4+ years of experience with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and/or algorithm development.
  • 4+ years of experience and proficiency in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and trade analysis of common RF issues e.g. interference mitigation, clutter analysis, loop gain, scheduling, and resource management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop compelling reports that summarize analytical findings, making a significant impact on the decision-making process.
  • Skilled at presenting technically challenging concepts in easily understood terms, with a history of success in presenting both to customers and program managers.
  • History of successful mentorship of junior engineers with verifiable outcomes.
  • Willingness and ability to work up to 100% onsite within a closed area at the Baltimore/Linthicum campus.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% to remote test sites.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Active Secret clearance required prior to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience writing, coordinating, executing, and leading/directing tests assessing the performance of complex RF systems.
  • 4+ years of experience performing System Integration and Test (I&T) of EW systems on time and within budget.
  • System Baselining experience as a major contributor.
  • Experience with modeling and simulation of EW systems using tools such as MATLAB Simulink.
  • Experience operating/writing scripts to control test bench equipment e.g. Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, and Programmable Network Analyzers.
  • A strong working knowledge of Python, C++, and Interactive Data Language.
  • Expert knowledge of the EW kill chain including waveform acquisition, tracking, classification, engagement, and warfighter interaction.
  • Experience performing mission-level Radar / Electronic Warfare analysis.
  • On the job demonstration of advanced concepts in applied probability theory

Salary Range: $179,600.00 - $269,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
