Our Undersea Systems Engineering team at Northrop Grumman Oceanic Systems in Annapolis, MD is seeking dependable individuals willing to work in a collaborative environment and that are interested in expanding their horizons. Our organization needs someone with a background in Sonar (ideally SAS systems), digital signal processing, beamforming, interferometric arrays, sensors, communication arrays, transducers and AI/ML techniques applied to data collection, simulation and data mensuration. This individual will share our team's passion in pursuing the art of the possible in developing cutting edge systems for our customers (CRAD) and internal development projects (IRAD) in addition to supporting programs of record. The ideal candidate will leverage all prior experience, skills and knowledge, applying it to development, delivery and maintenance of our Sonar systems. Experience with underwater/naval systems such as Torpedo's, Towed Vehicles, Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUV), Submarines, etc. is encouraged. This individual may be asked to travel to participate in field testing. Familiarity with sonar/ sensor data analysis and interpretation of data against requirements is necessary.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in STEM related field with 3 years' of relevant technical experience OR currently enrolled in a PhD program with a completion date prior to start with 1 year of relevant technical experience OR PhD in STEM related field with 1 year of relevant technical experience.

  • Background in Sonar arrays, sensors, communication arrays, transducers or radar

  • Familiarity with Labview and/or MATLAB programming and troubleshooting

  • US Citizen with ability to obtain Top Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Design, Manufacture, and Test of Sonar Systems

  • Familiarity with electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc)

  • Previous design or testing experience with Comms/Sonar/Radar receivers

  • Extensive experience developing sonar signal processing algorithms, beamformers and raw data analysis

  • Experience with AI/ML as it relates to detection and classification of objects of interest in sonar data

  • An interest in seeing production systems through manufacturing and test, locally, with the possibility of travel to field - sites for final sell-off testing.

Salary Range: $115,800.00 - $173,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
