Responsibilities:

As an Electronics Engineer III for the Instrument Electronics Group, you will be working for JPL’s Electronics, Software, and Microwave Instruments Section. This unique position will provide a cognizant engineer with the opportunity to deliver electronics for our next generation of space instruments. This role will require you to oversee an electronics sub-assembly, from requirements development, design, analysis, risk management, manufacturing, test, and delivery. Your contributions will be invaluable at all phases of the project from proposal to delivery and, as a member of the Instruments Division, you are on the front line where engineering meets science.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Report to the Technical Group Supervisor and in a matrix role, to a project’s Product Delivery Manager (PDM).

  • End-to-end design, analysis, test, and delivery of flight instrument electronics sub-assemblies.

  • Work with a FPGA designer on FPGA selection, pinouts and applying high speed design techniques to the PWB design.

  • Guide EM and FM hardware thru fabrication and assembly including: EEE part selection and procurement, drawing release, test planning, EGSE development.

  • Report technical, budget and schedule status to a PDM.

The initial assignment is to lead the development of the Data and Telemetry Unit (DTU) for the CRISTAL and Sentinel-6C radiometers. In addition, this position will likely support other developments in the section such as SBG OTTER and VSWIR.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical subject area with typically a minimum of 6 years of related experience; a Master’s degree in similar subject areas with a minimum of 4 years of related experience; or a PhD in similar fields with a minimum of 2 years related experience.

  • Knowledgeable in one or more of the following areas: circuit design, circuit analysis, schematic capture, PCB layout, environmental testing, manufacturing, testing.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand the implications of early design choices, thru the end-to-end design process (parts selection, layout, mass, power)

  • Previous experience in flight hardware design.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi task across multiple subject areas.

  • Strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.

  • Proficient in the use of CAD tools: Altium, LTSpice.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in the design and test of analog and/or digital electronics.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform reliability analyses including parts stress analysis and worst-case analysis.

  • Experience adhering to both NASA and institutional policies and procedures, government regulations, and industry standards

  • Demonstrated leadership skills

Hiring range for this job may be adjusted based on primary work location outside of Pasadena, California. This adjusted range will be provided to candidates by the Recruiter when applicable.
