We have a current opportunity for a Space Systems Engineer, Lead - REMOTE, to join our team. This role uses a digital and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approach to design, develop, integrate, and test end-to-end spacecraft systems, components, and payloads through their entire life cycle. Serves as a senior technical leader for the development of Digital Engineering and MBSE processes and procedures as applied to space systems and missions. Is instrumental in attracting/obtaining major new business.
Responsibilities
- Promote and leverage Digital Engineering and MBSE tools to support the full product lifecycle.
- Generate quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and acquisition logistics.
- Ensure requirements comply with customer needs and government standards through formal verification methods.
- Translate high level space system, component, and payload development strategies into requirement specifications and work with other engineering disciplines to develop lower-level detailed implementation requirements.
- Define standards, practices, and procedures for the development of space systems, payloads, and components.
- Design interfaces and support system integration activities.
- Assess performance using evaluation criteria and technical performance measures.
- Act as customer liaison and support business development activities to understand and shape requirements for products and services.
- Participate in system conceptual design and modeling/documentation of design concepts.
- Review test plans/procedures and ensure they meet the objectives of the contractual requirements and support the testing process to validate requirements.
- Manage technical aspects of program elements.
- Plan and conduct technical reviews.
- Mentor, coach, train, guide, direct and advise junior staff.
- Recognize and mitigate technical issues and risks while operating within budget and on schedule.
- Work with a diverse community of engineers and managers to achieve the goals of the program team.
Ideal Experience
- B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or other space-related discipline.
- Minimum of 8+ years’ experience in aerospace and defense (A&D) industry, including developing, designing, manufacturing, and testing flight hardware.
- Demonstrated experience with A&D system development, deployment, and operations.
- Must have a well-rounded System Level approach with demonstrated technical leadership.
- Must have experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and SysML.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience with Cameo Systems Modeler (or related Dassault MBSE tools) or other comparable MBSE tool.
- Experience with A&D systems engineering including an understanding of vehicle-level design, system architecture development, and missions and operations development.
- Attention to detail and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated in applying engineering principles, concepts, and practices of systems engineering to independently perform assignments.
- Ability to travel - an average of 10-15% travel may be required.
- Must have US Citizenship with ability to obtain a DoD clearance.
Desired Skills
- Experience with space system development and operations.
- Current or active DoD TS/SCI Clearance.
- M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or other space-related discipline.
- INCOSE CSEP or other Systems Engineering Certification.
- Experience with Jama or DOORS requirements management tool.
- Experience with modeling and simulation tools such as STK, Model Center, Workbench, and SolidWorks.
- Python scripting.
