Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division has an opening for a Director of Subcontracts to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals This leadership position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

Position Overview:

Responsible for leading a Subcontracts Team, which includes approximately 11 Managers and approximately 46 Subcontract Specialists, who direct and manage the cost, schedule, and performance requirements of their subcontracts.

The Director of Subcontracts will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of subcontracting activities within the organization. This includes operating cross functionally to develop and implement subcontracting strategies, negotiating subcontract agreements, and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and company policies. The Director is further responsible for managing the personnel on their team – coaching, growing, guiding, and enriching their careers as they manage their subcontracts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement subcontracting strategies to support the organization's goals and objectives.

  • Identify and evaluate potential subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure they meet the organization's quality, cost, and delivery requirements.

  • Negotiate subcontract agreements, including terms and conditions, pricing, and delivery schedules, while ensuring favorable terms for the organization.

  • Manage the subcontracting process from initiation to closeout, including subcontractor selection, performance monitoring, and issue resolution.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including project managers, procurement, legal, and finance teams, to ensure alignment and compliance with contractual requirements and company policies.

  • Monitor subcontractor performance and compliance with contractual obligations, including quality, schedule, and budget requirements.

  • Identify and mitigate subcontracting risks and issues, and develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to foster collaboration and drive continuous improvement.

  • Provide guidance and support to project teams on subcontracting matters, including interpretation of subcontract agreements and resolution of subcontract-related issues.

  • Stay informed of industry best practices, trends, and regulations related to subcontracting, and incorporate them into the organization's processes and procedures.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in global supply chain, procurement, and/or subcontracts management with a proven track record of success in managing subcontracting activities for large-scale projects – OR – Master’s degree with 8+ years of professional experience

  • 7+ years formal lead/management experience

  • Solid understanding of subcontracting principles, practices, and regulations, including FAR/DFARS requirements.

  • Proficiency in contract management systems, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years' of proven track record building a robust team; provide people leadership, with a focus on acquiring, developing and retaining talent; respectful of others & understand and embrace the value of an inclusive team; empower each team member to perform at the highest level of productivity; be empathetic and listen for understanding

  • Certification, such as Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM) or Certified Federal Contracts Manager (CFCM), is a plus.

  • Ability to analyze complex subcontracting issues, identify solutions, and make sound business decisions.

  • Proven ability to set a vision; assess external and internal factors to determine long-term business direction; create strategies that shape the future and inspire the team, resulting in sustainable value and performance; critical thinking

  • Proven ability to lead with courage; make bold moves, willingness to speak up and to take on new challenges; take calculated risks, with appropriate mitigation plans; self-aware, transparent and authentic; seek feedback from others

  • Proven ability to act with speed; understand the need for urgency to meet the needs of the business and stakeholders; decisive, drive timely decision-making; empower others with clear accountability and appropriate support

  • Experience as an accomplished problem-solver and change-agent whose unique mix of technical and business expertise lends itself to developing innovative Supply Chain strategies

Salary Range: $197,600.00 - $296,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
