Job description

Omitron, Inc. is looking for a Mid-to-Senior Software Engineer to join our team in our Colorado Springs, CO office. This role will be an integral part of the SOLACE software development team, contributing to the creation of advanced astrodynamics applications supporting the US Space Force’s Space Situational Awareness and Space Domain Awareness mission areas. The applications we develop will modernize and enhance existing legacy systems. The role involves applying an AGILE development approach to software production. This position requires candidates to be in our offices Hybrid-to-Full Time, depending on project needs.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of software solutions, ensuring alignment with the overall technical direction set by the SOLACE Lead Engineer.
  • Work closely with the SOLACE Product Owner to meet project deadlines and deliverables.
  • Implement modern software development practices, including integrated testing, version control (GIT), and a robust Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline.
  • Analyze and refactor legacy astrodynamics software (written in C, FORTRAN, MATLAB, or other languages) for modernization within the SOLACE program.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with senior engineers across both the SOLACE and legacy application projects.
  • Conduct performance benchmarking and comparative analysis of SOLACE applications to optimize their functionality and accuracy.
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • Security Clearance: None required, but candidates must be eligible to obtain a US Government security clearance.
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Astrodynamics, or related field with 4+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in software development or astrodynamics engineering.
  • Proficiency in two or more of the following languages: Java, C++, Fortran, Python3.
  • Solid experience with GIT or equivalent source control systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to drive solutions and improvements in a specialized domain.
  • Self-motivated with excellent time-management, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
  • Proven experience working with AGILE methodologies in a collaborative team environment.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • 6+ years of professional experience combining both software development and astrodynamics engineering.
  • Expertise in multiple programming languages/technologies, including Java, C++, Fortran, Python3, API frameworks, AWS, containerization, and virtualization.
  • Hands-on experience with GitLab and Atlassian Toolsets (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket).
  • Experience developing and maintaining unit tests, managing code via a CI/CD pipeline, and ensuring robust software delivery.
  • Strong understanding of modern object-oriented programming practices and performance optimization techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across teams and mentor junior engineers.
  • Current DoD Security Clearance is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this role is $110,000 to $160,000, depending on relevant experience, location, and other factors.
