Salary: $150,000- $200,000 (Commensurate on experience)

York Space Systems is looking for a Test Automation Manager. The ideal candidate will act as an expert on all test software aspects of space hardware, supporting/managing junior engineers and working across engineering teams to lead and coordinate best practices in test: planning, coordinating, executing, and troubleshooting test campaigns. The ideal candidate will have extensive prior experience in the space sector, with an emphasis on small satellites and small satellite components.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Work closely with systems engineering and program management to define verification strategies and timelines.
Develop, execute, and manage complex test plans for mission-specific verification.
Plan, design, develop, and execute both manual and automated tests cases, including documentation and trouble shooting.
Identify and develop automation to improve production line, including ground support equipment, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and software-in-the-loop testing.
Maintain and improve test software architecture, style guidelines, and review processes.
Work in conjunction with flight software and ground software to grow simulation testing and CI/CD pipelines across the company and programs.
Identify testing methods and test fixturing for risk mitigation, prototype development and requirement verification.
Plan and perform environmental qualification and testing of hardware, including functional testing, vibration testing, thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, deployments, and other qualification tests.
Communicate and collaborate with various areas of the business, such as flight software, ground software, product and technical leadership, and program managers.
Interface with the customer by negotiating test requirements and methods, jointly developing plans, and communicating and reporting on test progress.
Represent test engineering at major program milestones and act as expert reviewer at Test Readiness Reviews.
Update and identify key performance indicators for the test automation team.
Plan and support regression testing activities during test campaigns and on-orbit support.
Guide/mentor younger engineers in the test engineering process.
Perform management duties including regular one on ones, performance evaluations, coaching/mentorship, hiring, training, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field.
8+ years of experience as a test engineer, experience managing a team
Demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and develop high-performing test engineering teams.
Strong project management and prioritization skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.
Proven ability to collaborate across multiple teams.
Ability to establish and measure key performance metrics and quality assurance processes.
Hands-on experience in space and small satellites, including satellite components.
Experience testing hardware for space environments.
Experience with writing and executing manual and/or automated test procedures.
Experience with programming languages such as C++, Python, or similar.
Experience with software configuration management tools and CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with project management tools.
Experience in overseeing and processing data from environmental tests such as Vibration, shock, thermal cycling, and/or thermal-vacuum testing.
Familiar with writing test documentation, such as test plans, procedures, and reports.
Experience with the full program lifecycle.
Experience overseeing and executing the full software development lifecycle.
Experience with preparing and leading project stage-gate meetings (such as CDR, TRR, etc.) and interfacing with customers.
Experience working in Linux and Windows environments.
Experience with simulation testing.
Functional leadership experience (such as reviewing performance and providing performance feedback).
Active security clearance.

DESIRED QUALIFICATONS

Familiarity with MIL-STD testing and NASA GEVS testing standards.
