We are looking for an experienced Power Systems Manager.  

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads an energetic and agile engineering team focused on power systems design for space suit applications.

  • Manages the design, integration, and validation of space suit power systems, batteries, power converters, and energy storage systems.

  • Defines power system requirements based on mission goals, environmental conditions, and regulatory standards. Ensure systems meet the reliability, efficiency, and performance criteria required for space missions.

  • Coordinates and plans tasks with Power System Team Leads to meet program development plan and schedule.

  • Oversees and manages power systems projects from concept to implementation, ensuring that timelines, budgets, and performance objectives are met.

  • Coordinates with cross-functional teams including systems engineers, software engineers, and hardware designers.

  • Ensures thorough testing of power systems, both in laboratory and space-simulation environments, and validate their performance in real-world conditions.

  • Works with external suppliers and partners for the procurement of power components batteries, and power electronics.

  • Provides technical leadership and mentoring to engineers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative environment focused on innovative power solutions for space applications.

  • Prepares technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and status reports. Present results to senior management, stakeholders, and external agencies as required.

  • Familiar with designing for a radiation tolerant environment.

  • Understanding of EMI/EMC principles and applications.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline (graduate degree preferred) with of 15+ years of experience in management of engineering staff.

  • PMP, Six Sigma, or similar project management certifications are a plus.

  • Experience with power management systems, battery systems, energy storage, and power conversion in harsh environmental conditions.

  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and space agency requirements (NASA, ESA, etc.) for power systems.

  • Automotive and commercial electronics background welcome.

  • Self-starter and able to perform under minimal supervision.

  • Success in designing, developing, testing, of electronics.

  • Strong grasp of DC-DC topologies and design methodologies.

  • Experience in analyzing, simulation, and testing of electronics.

  • Understanding of analog control and discrete logic design.

  • Understanding of design for fault tolerance and reliability.

  • Familiarity with spacecraft electrical systems and knowledge of radiation effects.

  • Familiarity with lithium-ion battery handling, safety, and usage.

  • Understanding of PCB layout, PCBA manufacturing, component selection and environmental qualifications.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements 

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
