ispace Technologies, US. l is a looking for a highly motivated and talented Lead Propulsion Engineer to join its new team! This role is based in Englewood, Colorado.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Leadership: Lead the design and development of advanced propulsion systems, including engines, thrusters, and propellant systems. Ensure designs meet mission requirements and industry standards.
- Lead and mentor a team of propulsion engineers. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, providing guidance and support to team members.
- Lead a diverse team of propulsion engineers from a variety of mechanical and fluids engineering backgrounds
- Lead system-level tasks including creation, management, and communication of development schedules with sufficient detail to ensure that all assigned responsible engineers are aware of theirs tasks and deadlines as well as identify internal and external resources required to support the ongoing development work
- Lead engine system or component test programs from a hardware design perspective. Set test objectives and limits, instrumentation and test data requirements, and test planning to execute component validation
- Drive critical decision-making for performing component as well as system level design and analysis, evaluate subsystem performance as part of the complete Lander system, and lead internal propulsion change management
- Evaluate and develop propulsion system requirements, ensuring manufacturability is a priority
- Drive component design and selection as well as system verification testing, troubleshooting and requirement(s) closure
- Establish propulsion analysis processes, conduct performance tests on representative models or prototypes to ensure quality and performance standards are met
- Analyze for damage tolerance, durability, design allowables as well as leading structural modeling
- Collaborate with software, hardware, supply chain and integration teams
- Create and manage supplier statements of work, as required
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
- BS in mechanical or aerospace engineering. We will consider a combination of relevant experience and education.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in spacecraft and/or launch vehicle propulsion systems
- Proven track record of leading design development from design through fabrication, testing and integration
- Knowledgeable about mechanical design, material selection, and fabrication processes for spaceflight hardware
- Experience with fluid dynamics and pressurized components (valves, regulators, tubes, pipes, etc.)
- Experience leading operation-critical mechanical design, including basic structures, fluids calculations, and design considerations
- Acumen with analysis tools for rocket propulsion or fluid-thermal applications
- Prior experience with developing, maintaining and improving welding processes
- Familiarity with project management tools, including Atlassian
- Possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
- Demonstrated problem solving ability and strong program leadership and execution skills
- Proficiency in Solidworks, Femap, NASTRAN (or equivalent) software packages
- Strong understanding of design software tools (CAD, ANSYS, etc)
- Experience with Bi-Propellant ( Hypergol Propulsion) operations
- Design-for-manufacturing experience
- Knowledgeable of space environmental tests
- Experience with common industry standards for spacecraft structural and mechanical design, test and integration; including, but not limited to, AIAA S-080, AIAA S-081,
- NASA-STD-5001, NASA-STD-5017 & SMC-S-016
- 1-2 years experience in leading a team/people management
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work in a fast-paced design and development environment
- Schedule may vary depending on program development needs; flexibility required
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required
The salary range posted is a targeted range for budget of position. Base compensation can be negotiated and will be commensurate with experience, skills, education, and training.
