Job description

Omitron is seeking an experienced Astrodynamics Engineer with coding experience to join the SOLACE program in Colorado Springs, CO. The successful candidate will bring a solid background in astrodynamics research and development (R&D), with a focus on algorithm development and a strong desire to develop code. This role will provide an opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects and contribute to advanced space missions, trajectory design, and mission planning. This position will require candidates to be in our offices HYBRID-to-FULL TIME as necessary for project success. This position is contingent upon receipt of additional contract funding, which is anticipated by the end of 2024.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and validate advanced astrodynamics algorithms for conjunction analysis, orbit determination, and related applications, leveraging expertise in celestial mechanics and implementing efficient, reliable solutions in C++
  • Lead and contribute to R&D efforts related to spacecraft dynamics, orbital mechanics, and mission optimization.
  • Perform analysis and simulations of complex space systems, orbital trajectories, and space vehicle interactions.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in astrodynamics, including validation and verification of algorithms and models.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and scientists to integrate astrodynamics solutions into larger system architectures.
  • Document, present, and communicate technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • US Citizenship required
  • Security Clearance Required: None, but candidates must be willing to be submitted for a US Government security clearance
  • Education: Master’s or Ph.D. in Astrodynamics, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related discipline
  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in developing and optimizing astrodynamics algorithms
  • Strong understanding of astrodynamics principles, including orbital mechanics, trajectory optimization, and space mission design.
  • Experience with numerical methods, simulations, and modeling in astrodynamics.
  • Proficiency with common programming languages used in astrodynamics, such as Python, MATLAB, or similar.
  • Experience in data analysis, algorithm development, and system-level simulations.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, with excellent problem-solving skills.
Desired Qualifications:
  • **Advanced proficiency in C++** for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation.
  • Additional software development experience (C, Fortran, Java, Python)
  • Ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers and scientists in astrodynamics and algorithm development.

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this role is $120,000 to $160,000, depending on relevant experience, location, and other factors.
