Job description
Job Description
As a thermal engineer, you will be responsible for designing and analyzing thermal management systems for high-thrust rocket engines. You will ensure that components and systems can withstand and operate efficiently under extreme thermal conditions. Your work will be critical to maintaining the performance, reliability, and safety of the propulsion system.
Responsibilities
Tasks and missions
Thermal analysis and simulation: perform detailed thermal simulations and calculations to analyze heat loads and temperature distributions across engine components. Use advanced tools to predict thermal behavior in both steady-state and transient conditions.
Heat transfer optimization: analyze and design cooling systems, including regenerative cooling, radiation, and conduction paths, to maintain safe operating temperatures. Collaborate with other engineers to ensure thermal control solutions align with system requirements.
Testing and validation: develop test protocols to validate thermal models and verify thermal performance. Analyze test data to adjust models and refine designs, ensuring the thermal system meets performance targets.
Documentation and compliance: create detailed technical reports, including thermal analyses, design specifications, and test results. Ensure all designs meet regulatory and industry standards for safety and thermal management.
Preferred experience and skills
Engineering degree in thermal engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field with a focus on heat transfer and thermal systems.
Technical skills:
- Experience in thermal analysis and design, especially in high-temperature applications such as aerospace or propulsion systems.
- Proficiency in thermal simulation software (e.g., StarCCM, Simcenter, ANSYS, COMSOL) and experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for heat transfer studies.
- Strong understanding of heat transfer mechanisms, including conduction, convection, and radiation, in high-stress environments.
- Knowledge of materials science, especially high-temperature materials, coatings, and insulation materials.
- Familiarity with testing methods for thermal systems and experience in interpreting data for thermal performance validation.
Behavioral skills:
- Attention to detail with an analytical mindset for solving complex thermal challenges.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly in multidisciplinary project environments.
- Ability to work under pressure, with a methodical approach to managing high-stakes thermal tasks.
