Internship conversion position for the Embedded & Specialized Computing Department. This position will be located at in Chantilly, VA.
Work Model:
Hybrid: This position will be a hybrid work model and offer partially remote with some onsite work required in Chantilly, VA.
What You’ll Be Doing
Implement specialized embedded compute products focused on accelerated computing, spacecraft security, or sensors for satellite applications.
Lead efforts to take ideas from concept to custom Printed Circuit Board delivery.
Perform research, prototyping, and hands-on development to solve unique challenges for both internal and external customer missions.
Provide mentorship to junior staff to foster a team environment of learning and growth.
Foster Innovation through proposal of innovative research efforts to advance the department's product and knowledge lines.
Work with management to advise on new or changing strategic imperatives for the department based on commercial technology shifts and staff interests.
Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed.
Training and mentorship will be provided.

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
Pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Cyber Engineering, or related discipline
Prior internship at The Aerospace Corporation
Minimum GPA of 3.0
Strong experience in at least one embedded specialization: embedded software, HDL logic design, PCB design, embedded AI/ML, or embedded security.
Expert knowledge with two or more of the following languages: Python, C, C++, JavaScript, Java, Go, Rust, Verilog, or VHDL.
Experience with laboratory tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, and multimeters.
This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
Active security clearance
Experience with AI at the edge or AI with constrained resources, e.g. use of quantization in neural network applications.
Experience with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design for SWAP (Size, Weight, and Power) applications
Experience with PCB hardware bring-up: validating power configuration, clock metrics, and data transfer.
Working knowledge of firmware development (baremetal or RTS) on microcontrollers and/or SoCs.
Working knowledge of typical hardware interfaces: I2C, SPI, GPIO, UART, etc. Working knowledge of typical subsystems (e.g., eMMc, raw NAND, etc.) and associated system level software integration.
