This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. 

  

As part of a hardworking team of diverse spacecraft development engineers, you will assist in the design and development of lidar sensors for a variety of spacecraft applications (rendezvous, descent, and landing). You will participate in the full design life cycle of navigation sensor development: analysis, testing, verification/validation, and flight. You will work closely with the guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) team to seamlessly integrate the navigation system components with the rest of the GN&C. Your contributions will enable flight of state-of-the-art aerospace vehicles and missions.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Take ownership of the electrical and PCBA design aspects of spacecraft navigation sensors from prototype to hardware qualification.  
• Drive systems trades, requirements capture and electrical system architecture.
• Own circuit design, simulation and PCBA schematic capture and work alongside PCBA layout Engineer to drive PCBA layout.
• Develop PCBA bring up and Design Verification test plans and own debugging, and system integration/testing.
• Drive DFM and DFA reviews with Contract manufacturers.
• Routinely collaborate with manufacturing operations, supply chain, and other teams within the company to ensure smooth execution of the development efforts. 
• Build and execute development and qualification testing campaigns to demonstrate navigation hardware performance.
• Work with a small and agile team of diverse engineers developing highly reliable navigation sensors for spacecraft. 
• Support the GN&C subsystem technical lead with a cross-functional mindset to facilitate subsystem and system level architectural decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:

• B.S. in electrical engineering or related technical discipline with 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Expertise in Power, analog design for low noise, high SNR designs, including SPICE simulations.
• Expertise in circuit design and schematic entry.
• Experience with Mixed signal PCBA layout for high-speed digital circuit design and reduced EMI/EMC.
• Hands-on experience prototyping, debugging, and testing.
• Proficient in the use of electrical test equipment (e.g., multi-meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies).
• Experience in designing electrical systems for high radiation and/or space environments. 
• Experience with component and board level reliability analysis.
• Experience with spacecraft avionics communications protocols (MIL-STD-1553, RS-422, Ethernet, etc.).
• Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

• M.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in development of spacecraft navigation sensors, spacecraft avionics systems or lidars.
• Experience in electrical, electronic, and electromechanical (EEE) parts selection for human rated space applications/environments.

 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $167,088.00-$233,923.20

Other site ranges may differ
