EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Writer - Aviation in our Hughes Network Systems division. This position could be located in either Germantown, MD or Lisle, IL.

Hughes is a leading provider of satellite products and services that recently announced disruptive in-flight entertainment and connectivity solutions for airlines.

This position will develop and edit the technical documents associated with FAA submissions for Supplemental Type Certificates and OEM Line Fit submissions for inclusion in OEM catalogs. Responsibilities:

  • Documentation Creation: Develop, write, and edit technical documents, including manuals, user guides, and maintenance instructions, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with industry standards.
  • FAA Submissions: Prepare and manage submissions to the FAA for STCs, including compiling necessary documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research to gather information from subject matter experts, technical staff, and other resources to produce accurate and comprehensive documentation.
  • Review and Editing: Review and edit technical documents for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to style guidelines. Ensure all documents are free of errors and inconsistencies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and regulatory specialists to gather information and ensure documentation meets project requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and adherence to project schedules.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes to continuously improve documentation processes and quality.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Aviation, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in technical writing, preferably in the aviation industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with FAA submissions for STCs is highly desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality documentation.
  • Proficiency in technical writing tools and software.
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations and requirements for STC submissions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Working knowledge of aviation structural design, analysis, and certification processes, including familiarity with industry standards (e.g., FAR Part 25, CS-25).
  • Familiar with aviation regulations and standards (FAA, EASA, etc) and experience with aircraft design methodologies.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific tools and technologies (DO-254, DO-160) is a plus. 
  • A working knowledge of the STC process is important.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills

Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.

Compensation Range

Annual Salary: $77,500.00 - $97,000.00
