Astroscale UK is looking to recruit a (Senior) Manager Financial Planning & Analysis. This role is a key part of the Company’s progression from a small company with “start-up” finance processes to a medium sized company with mature finance processes.


This is a business wide role which requires a focus on managing existing processes and adopting new practices as appropriate to ensure the smooth running of Reporting, Forecasting and Budgeting and providing Finance support for the business.


The (Senior) Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) manager will provide Astroscale UK senior management with Reporting and Forecasts of the organisation's cash flow, profit and loss (income statement) and operating performance for the upcoming quarter and year. These forecasts inform management on the progress and effectiveness of the company’s strategic plans and investments. They also enable management to communicate with external stakeholders and holding company in Japan.

In addition to reporting, budgets and Forecasts the role will be involved in other aspects of decision support and special projects.



Responsibilities 


Reporting Forecasting and Budgeting

  • Manage the monthly and quarterly reporting process ensuring the timely production of department and consolidated reporting for the senior managers in Astroscale UK
  • Manage the preparation of companywide Quarterly forecasts of P&L Balance sheet and cash flow including explaining variances to budget and prior forecast for the leadership team
  • Working with the Finance Director to provide timely reporting to the Japanese holding company in accordance with their requirements as a publicly listed company on the Tokyo stock exchange
  • Consolidate quarterly Project forecasts ensuring the Company forecast reflect all major project milestones
  • Prepare annual Department budgets - Work with department budget holders to prepare and review forecasts on a quarterly basis ensuring sound financial management and planning in these overhead areas
  • Prepare consolidated budgets and 5 year plans for Astroscale UK for submission to Astroscale Holdings. This includes working closely with Business Development, Business Analysis and Policy and Operations departments to include analysis of sales pipeline, policy impact and operational development
  • Prepare quarterly and annual Cashflow forecasting to inform long term funding decisions.


Financial Statement preparation

  • Manage the year end audit and have oversight of the year-end financial statement preparation ensuring the main statements and supporting documents are accurately presented and reconciled
  • Ensure reporting is in line with UK GAAP and adopted policies as well as ensuring the statements are converted to IFRS for group consolidated reporting as required
  • Liaise with external accountant to provide information for the annual Corporation Tax return and R&D claim.
  • Liaise with external financial accountant to complete any company secretarial duties re filings with Companies House


Other activities

  • Develop the scenario planning process employed as part of the annual budget cycle to reflect the latest industry and Geo political trends working with all areas of the company
  • Provide an interface with Astroscale’s Japanese holding company to ensure that all ad hoc requests for information are met to their timescales
  • Implement changes to accounting policy in line with group requirements ensuring that UK processes are suitably adapted and changes are properly documented
  • Prepare for internal audit processes such as JSOX audits
  • Ensure there is good governance around decision making and Forecast preparation
  • Perform Ad hoc analysis of historic trends and develop and understanding of the key assumptions and trends that may impact future performance
  • Support Group wide projects as needed



Essential Skills


  • Professional accounting qualification – CIMA, ACCA or ACA.
  • Previous relevant experience working in a similar role with 5+ years progressive experience in financial planning and analysis, with a strong focus on budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling, in corporate finance, consulting, auditing or another analytic environment.
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Experience creating financial statements, accounts, and reports
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month / year end financial processes
  • Hands-on team player with a “can-do” approach
  • Exceptional analytical and interpersonal skills with a good eye for detail
  • Ability to distil complex financial data into actionable insights
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working in a supervisory capacity
  • Implementation of processes / process improvement
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities effectively


Desirable skills

  • Experience with software packages SAP, would be an advantage
  • Working knowledge of IFRS
  • Japanese speaking
