Job description

Are you a problem solver with exceptional time management and customer service skills? If you're eager to continue your career in Research Administration, we invite you to join our Grants Administration team at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI). Our world-class astronomical research center is based on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus in Baltimore, Maryland. This position supports hybrid work. You will be working mostly from home, but you must reside in or be willing to relocate to our local market (MD/DE/PA/VA/WV/DC) and be able to report onsite when needed.

You'll play a crucial role in our mission as the sponsor of the grant programs for the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), two of the most powerful space telescopes ever created. These grants fuel groundbreaking astronomical research, leading to the captivating images you often see in the news! A minimum of ten years of prior grants administration experience with federal grants is required.

As a member of our team, you will apply the HST and JWST program policies, procedures, and regulations, including the Uniform Guidance (2CFR200), to award and manage NASA- funded research grants to grant recipients.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Execute all grant activities in all phases of the grant life-cycle, including pre-award reviews, post-award monitoring and administration, and closeout.
  • Work with investigators and research administration staff at institutions to assist with pre-award and proposal questions, evaluate eligibility, and determine cost allowability.
  • Provide support and training to institutions related to the application of the STScI General Grant Provisions to STScI grants.
  • Provide support and training to recipient institutions in the use of the Space Telescope Grants Management System (STGMS).
  • Review recipient audit reports as well as business, financial, administrative, and management policies and practices to evaluate risks posed by recipient institutions. Based on your evaluation, you will identify and recommend appropriate levels of recipient monitoring to the Grants Administration management team.
  • Work with the management team to improve processes and respond to customer requests.
  • This position may require occasional availability outside of core business hours and weekends to complete special assignments or to provide support to recipients in Central, Mountain, and Pacific time zones. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications:

You must be a highly motivated and curious self-starter who thrives in a team environment and takes personal ownership and pride in your work. A minimum of ten years of prior grants administration experience working with federally funded grants and 2 CFR 200 is required. Experience working in a sponsor organization is desirable but not required.

You must possess a Bachelor’s degree along with the following skills and abilities:

  • At least 10 years of experience in evaluating recipient eligibility for federal awards and sub-recipient management in all phases of the grant life-cycle (pre-award, post award and closeout).
  • At least 5 years of experience in evaluating recipient risk, and establishing appropriate subrecipient monitoring practices.
  • A commitment to excellence and customer service.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to find creative solutions.
  • Excellent time management skills including the ability to coordinate, plan, and prioritize multiple ongoing tasks or projects to meet stated deadlines.
  • A positive outlook and desire to support harmonious, respectful, and collaborative working relationships with co-workers, scientists, institutions, and government.
  • An aptitude for using software tools, with a strong proficiency in MS Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Substitution of additional relevant education or experience for stated qualifications may be considered.

The salary range for this role is $78-95k annually . Our excellent benefits include:

  • Employer retirement contribution – direct contribution of 10% of your salary from your first day
  • 24 days of vacation accrued annually, 10 paid holidays, 12 days sick leave
  • Comprehensive medical/dental/vision/prescription plans, and more!

TO APPLY: Share your experience by uploading a resume and completing an online application. Applications received by October 9, 2024 will receive full consideration. Applications received after this date will be considered until the position is filled.
