Fabrication Technician, Structures Manufacturing

Vast is looking for a Fabrication Technician, reporting to the Manager of Structures Manufacturing, to support the development and fabrication of the Haven-1 primary structure, Vast’s first artificial-gravity human-rated space station. As a structures technician on Haven, you will work in a team-oriented environment where quick communication and effective execution are key.

This is a non-exempt position based out of our Long Beach location. 

Responsibilities: 

• Assist with production of the Haven Structure
• Operate sheet metal machines, Brake, Shear, 4 Bar Roller
• Prep Material for welding
• Familiar with general fabrication 
• Self-starter, highly motivated working in a fast-paced department
• Regularly handle large parts in excess of 50lbs
• Use a wide variety of fabrication equipment
• Perform a wide variety of fabrication and assembly techniques, such as match drilling and insert installation, etc
• Material handling of raw goods and finished weldments

Minimum Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience in the aerospace or sheet metal industry
• High School Diploma or equivalency certificate

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Ability to work in a team on fast-moving projects
• Ability to read blueprints
• Ability to use precision measuring equipment to verify part to blueprint
• Experience following written and verbal instruction
• Self-starter
• Team player mentality
• Aerospace manufacturing experience
• Experience with Manufacturing Planning Systems (ie ION, manufacturo)
• MIG, TIG, & robotic welding sheet metal
• General Fabrication and simple machining experience

Additional Requirements:

• Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs unassisted
• Ability to stand 8 hours per day
• Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed to support critical mission milestones
• Must be able to work on ladders and lifts with proper PPE
