Job description
Astroscale UK is looking for a Requirements Manager / Solution Architect (SFIA REQM, ARCH & DBDS) with Space Engineering Domain knowledge to join our Software team at our brand-new state-of-the-art office in Harwell, UK. This position will be responsible for supporting the development and verification of the Satellite Reference Database (SRDB) for our future orbital debris missions.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with extensive experience in Space Software looking to take the next step in their career.
From a technical perspective, this role will focus on agreeing the requirements for the SRDB with the Astroscale stakeholders and defining the architecture of the SRDB application and ensuring the requirements are being met.

Responsibilities
- Provide support and guidance to the software technical development of the complete flight software for a mission, helping the team to produce a solution which addresses the requirements upon the software.
- Fully understand the software development processes, and where necessary lead the creation of new processes.
- Awareness of industry standards and processes associated with flight software development.
- Mentoring and providing guidance to other (less senior) flight software engineers
- Reviewing work from other flight software engineers across quality, schedule and cost aspects
- Awareness of Astroscale’s position in the marketplace and our business goals and applying this knowledge accordingly to the technical solutions created.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor, master’s degree or PHD in computer science, software engineering or relevant engineering / science discipline.
- 10+ years of commercial experience in software development preferably in the space or aerospace domains
- Able to conceive/invent new software applications from a 'blank sheet'
- Experience in mentoring, reviewing and guiding other engineers
- Experience of all stages of design lifecycle from initial concept to design, test, and operations.
- Experience of implementing software solutions on spacecraft missions
- Experience of data analysis and database design
- Extensive knowledge of software development methodologies and approaches.
- Experience using design tools such as Capella, Enterprise Architect or equivalent UML.
- Knowledge of commonly used protocols and standards for spacecraft communications, such as CCSDS, CAN and Spacewire.
- Experience in developing and implementing test plans for software applications.
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Proactive and self-managing, able to plan and effectively lead areas of responsibility whilst contributing collaboratively within a close-knit team.
- Understanding of secure software development.
Desirable skills
- Knowledge of cFE and cFS flight software.
- Knowledge of ground segment architectures.
- Familiarity with Agile / Scrum software development practices.
- Use of the SysML and/or UML modelling languages.
- Basic Linux system administration, shell scripts, make, etc.
- Development on Linux systems.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. Python, bash).
- Knowledge of MATLAB
- Knowledge of assembler for microcontrollers.
- ESA PUS protocol
