SUMMARY

Composite technicians manufacture all production and development primary structures, tanks and secondary structures from raw fiber through delivery to the integration line. This position would also be directly responsible for operating the Filament Winder. The Alpha vehicle is the only American all-composite rocket and composites will fundamentally set Firefly above the competitors. Current openings are for both first and second shift.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform all the steps in making aerospace grade composite parts, including but not limited to:

  • Set up and fabricate composite parts, interpreting engineering drawings and work instructions to ensure accurate layup and assembly
  • Identify nonconforming parts and collaborate with engineering to troubleshoot and enhance manufacturing processes
  • Operate and maintain industrial equipment, including ovens, automated filament winders, and hydrostatic pressure testers
  • Perform machine setup, drilling, trimming, and cutting of materials, ensuring surfaces are prepped for bonding
  • Conduct bonding operations, including applying adhesives and managing curing processes.
  • Oversee 3D tooling setup, printing, handling, and in-process inspections
  • Utilize precision measuring tools to verify compliance with engineering standards
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety, ensuring all assemblies are free of foreign object debris (FOD)
  • Report non-conformances and unsafe conditions to supervision
  • Suggest improvements to production efficiency and participate in design meetings for future products
  • Handle hazardous materials per company guidelines
  • Perform hand lamination of various materials and execute full vacuum bag cure cycles
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives for fabrication operations
  • Ensure a clean and organized work area
  • Other duties assigned by management

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
  • Familiarity with composite materials and manufacturing processes
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions
  • Meticulous craftsmanship
  • Demonstrated ability to drill and lay out precision holes
  • Proficient use of Pneumatic tools, hand tools, Power tools, and Precision measurement instruments
  • Familiarity running a 400 PSI Winder
  • Familiarity working with and conforming to drilling, laminating, and assembly prints
  • Experience working with material data sheets
  • Shop organization and cleanliness
  • Use of personal protective equipment
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Lift 50 Lbs.
