Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently seeking a Painter to join our team at the Bacchus (Magna), Utah facility.

Duties, Expectations and Essential Functions:

Primary assignment is in the Maintenance Department – Performing painting and drywall finishing duties related to industrial and construction facilities.  Mixes paint, matches colors, prepares surfaces and applies paint to a variety of surfaces at the Bacchus plant. Perform all steps of mudding, taping, texturing and finishing.

Area specific essential functions, responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

•  Successful candidate must possess and provide documents showing the following:
•  Completed apprenticeship in industrial painting. OR
•  Employer references showing four years recent industrial painting experience.
•  Understands color theory and Finish types. Mixes, matches and applies paint and other finishes (Mud and Tape) to various types of surfaces.
•  Able to prepare surfaces, by washing walls, repairing holes, removing old paint.
•  Able to prepare surrounding areas with cloth or plastic to prevent messes. Moves furniture and equipment as necessary to access the entire surface of the project to be painted. Removes fixtures such as door knobs and light switch covers prior to painting.
•  Able to calculate the amount of materials and time required to complete a project.
•  Able to select and purchase the appropriate paint, brushers and supplies from vendors.
•  Able to properly prep, tape and mud Sheetrock, operate Road Striping equipment and fabricate signs from vinyl lettering or painting.
•  Able to pass all physical requirements to perform this job.  Carry heavy buckets of paint and equipment, work at heights, 
•  Able to handle all planning and prep work in an efficient manner.
•  Demonstrates attention to detail on all projects and duties.
•  Joining drywall panels using tape and plaster.
•  Repairing cracks and any other damage to the drywall panels.
•  Concealing any imperfections or exposed irregularities in the drywall surface.
•  Layering plaster or spackle with trowels to create a flat surface.
•  Sanding down rough areas on the wall to create a smooth surface.
•  Skimming the surface with a final layer of plaster in preparation for finishing work.
•  Managing and maintaining all the required equipment for the job.
•  Keeping your supervisor abreast of your progress and reporting any job-related issues.
•  Ensuring that all equipment and materials are used safely and effectively.

Rate 11 essential functions and expectations include, but are not limited to:

•  Accountable to conduct and/or lead the training of painters or helpers through on-the-job coaching and mentoring. Responsible to ensure trainee’s and junior employees follow procedures.
•  Effectively and constructively communicate with all levels of personnel including customers, leadership, coworkers and support team members
•  Actively engage in and lead or promote PES improvement activities, process/procedure improvements, standard work instructions and the global improvement of Maintenance 
•  Be an advocate for our safety culture.  Engage, promote and lead our teams in SIS activities, hazard abatements, OP-E, Take Two, etc.
•  Demonstrate the initiative and ability to become knowledgeable and proficient in all area processes and support all levels of hands-on tasks.
•  Guide and positively influence coworkers and others to enhance the safety, quality, cost and scheduling of their team
•  Assists leadership in achieving performance standards
•  Other duties as assigned by leadership

Experience Requirements:  

•  High School Diploma or GED Certification,
•  Completion of an apprenticeship in industrial painting, or five years of experience in industrial painting and dry wall finishing required.
•  Knowledge and understanding of  Color Theory and Various Finish Types

•  Ability to Climb Ladders
•  Ability to stand for long periods of time
•  Ability to work from and operate industrial man lifts
•  Ability to Carry Heavy Equipment (Including Painting Tools and Buckets of Paint)
•  Able to work well with other trades professionals.
•  Able to work to performance standards with little or no supervision

Education/Certifications:

•  High School Diploma or GED.
•  Able to acquire and maintain Employee Possessor (EP) status under the Safe Explosives Act (SEA).
