About the role

Muon seeks a Head of Manufacturing and Quality to join our team. The ideal candidate is a manufacturing guru that is excited by the prospect of designing and implementing a scalable manufacturing and quality control process from scratch to produce cutting edge Earth observation satellites.

This role is on-site only and is located at our Headquarters in Mountain View, CA.

Responsibilities

Lead the overall manufacturing and quality control function for the company
Engage deeply with supply chain and assembly, integration and test (AIT) teams through all phases of the product life cycle while ensuring all standards and requirements are upheld
Maintenance of software tooling (e.g. PLM, MES) and build process to ensure all procedures are up-to-date and the as-built record is accurate
Design, implement and maintain quality practices (inspection, MRB, NCR, etc), procedures and their deployment in a Quality Management System (QMS).
Recruit, develop, train, and retain world team members who will deliver for the business and amplify each team they interact with.
Act as an advisor to the engineering team on new process introduction (NPI), design for manufacturing (DFM), scalable manufacturing techniques and test methods
Manage team’s technical documentation strategy and ensure records are up-to-date and as-built record performance is monitored.
Manage and mentor manufacturing and quality engineers, specialists, and interns on the team. Evaluate project scope according to team’s skillset including labor and resourcing estimation
Identify automation opportunities and establish requirements as well as evaluating return on investment for each. Work with in-house resources or vendors as necessary to develop these solutions and implement on production line
Support the development of future plans on physical production layout, optimizing for material flow from material receiving through processes on the line
Monitor and communicate area status, readiness, and risks to leadership.

Qualifications

Master's degree in an engineering discipline or Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience
4+ years of experience in a leadership role in a manufacturing environment and transitioning products from development into production
High degree of comfort on the factory floor, working to identify and execute efficiency improvements in all aspects of production and manufacturing
Demonstrated capability to solve complex problems with little to no supervision on schedule as an individual or as a member of an integrated team using appropriate problem-solving tools
Experience with the design and manufacturing of high reliability products including the application of Lean principles.
Experience working in a highly adaptive and iterative environment
Experience implementing automation into production processes
Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing as part of a cross-functional team
Experience working with and defining requirements for ERP, MRP and MES systems
Ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers.

Salary

The salary range for this role is 175K-215K and will depend on a candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience as defined during the interview process.
