Northrop Grumman, Space Systems – Propulsion Systems is currently seeking an Operations Manager 1 to lead a team of technicians for the Space Launch System (Artemis) Forward Assembly and Aft Skirt Assembly value streams at the KSC (Florida) Booster Fabrication Facility.

Role description:

The Operations Manager will lead a highly skilled team of technicians to safely build, test and deliver the SLS Booster’s Forward Assembly and Aft Skirt Assembly at KSC.

Critical will be effective communication with internal customers (scheduler, planners, quality, VSET leadership).  Emphasis will be placed on safe operations, quality performance, on-time delivery, budget compliance and continuous improvement.  The position is located at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Job Duties:  
The Operations Manager is ultimately responsible to:

  • Maintain a safe work environment.

  • Directly lead a cross functional team of manufacturing technicians to safely provide quality products on-time and on-cost.

  • Ensure facilities, tooling, planning, materials, and personnel are available to complete assigned tasks in support of business requirements.

  • Ensure team’s training is complete and effective. Develop training materials and lead technician training activities.

  • Lead/participate in continuous improvement activities. Develop and maintain metrics to track organizational performance.

  • Set standards, working closely with the operations team to deliver performance.

  • Ensure roles and responsibilities of team members are well understood and executed.

  • Create and maintain SWI/OOI and other standard work documents that guide operations activities.

  • Investigate, administer, and implement corrective actions for mishaps, quality issues, FOD, etc.

  • Motivate the team, establishing and sustaining a culture of accountability, process improvements and trusting relationships.

  • Embrace the Servant Leadership philosophy, while empowering team to make decisions at the lowest levels where appropriate.

  • Ensure adequacy of systems, procedures, and people for long term success.

Experience Requirements:  

  • Supervisory experience leading multi-discipline teams.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering (e.g., drawings, 3-D models, specifications) and operating procedures.

  • Ability to read, interpret, follow, and teach assembly operations work steps from electronic shop floor planning.

  • Willingness to work flexible and changing schedules, including overtime and weekends, if necessary.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication/presentation skills, both written and verbal.

  • Demonstrated use of manufacturing performance tools/indicators.

  • Experience successfully communicating with leadership, coaching, and building effective teams.

  • Computer skills; MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Education/Certifications

  • BS degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of experience working in an aerospace manufacturing environment, including supervisory experience.

  • A High School Diploma/equivalent with 9 years of experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment, including supervisory experience, may be considered lieu of a degree.

Salary Range: $90,300.00 - $135,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
