As a Laser Communication Engineer with LM Space, you will contribute toward the development and delivery of Laser Communication subsystem solutions for space platforms. Laser Communication subsystems are an emerging need for our platforms and serve missions ranging from human space flight, commercial broadband services, national intelligence, protected communications, Pointing/Navigation/Timing, and more.

Our product portfolio addresses the critical needs of our commercial, civil, and government customers to field 5G communication solutions.

Some responsibilities will include:

• Contribute to the procurement, design, development, testing, and integration of space-based optical communication systems.

• Develop specifications, perform product trade analyses, execute detailed implementation, conduct laboratory and field testing, validate performance through analysis and testing, certify a deliverable product, and/or integrate the product onto a space vehicle.

This role is contingent upon an award win in Q2 2025.
Basic Qualifications:
• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related engineering discipline

• Experience with technical writing/editing of engineering documents.

• Experience using Excel, DOORs, Jira, Confluence, Cameo, and/or other Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools).

• Verified educational or professional experience in fiber optic, free-space optical, laser, or RF satellite communications.

• Ability to acquire and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance (requires US citizenship)
Desired Skills:
• Current DoD Secret clearance

• Experience with delivering technical presentations to a technical audience

• Experience developing specifications for Laser Communication products and defining RF/Optical system interfaces for a spacecraft.

• Ability to develop and analyze technical requirements, perform trade studies, and allocate functions down to laser communication subsystem and/or components.

• Experience with generating, reviewing, and tracking engineering deliverables

• Experience with purchasing products/services and reviewing deliverables from US and International suppliers

• Experience with laser communication subsystem performance analysis using MATLAB or similar analytical tools for link budget, acquisition time, and ranging

• Experience with the development of laser communication algorithms for Forward Error Correction (FEC) and Ranging using MATLAB, Simulink, or similar tool

• Experience with the development and execution of laser communication subsystem tests

• Experience as a member or leader of a multi-functional team

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Washington or Washington DC is $93,400 - $179,000 . Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

This position is incentive plan eligible.
