About the Role

The Mission Operations team is actively seeking a Spacecraft Operations Systems Engineer III to play a critical role in supporting the Tranche 2 Missile Warning and Tracking Program for the Space Development Agency (SDA). This position involves the development and utilization of systems that ensure the safe and efficient operation of spacecraft throughout their entire mission lifecycle, from development and launch to operations and decommissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement systems for the safe and efficient operation of spacecraft. 

  • Plan, execute, and monitor spacecraft operations, including conducting training sessions. 

  • Manage ground systems and software that support spacecraft operations. 

  • Analyze anomalies, develop recovery procedures, and improve operational processes. 

  • Support rigorous and challenging schedules during spacecraft ground-based testing, launch windows, and on-orbit operations.

  • Develop automated processes to operate 24/7 spacecraft operations. 

  • Collaborate with the launch operations team, spacecraft subsystem and systems engineers, flight software, and ground support teams to achieve mission objectives. 



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in System Engineering or related discipline and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience

  • Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices

  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams

  • Knowledge of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles

  • An active Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required. 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Robust understanding of all spacecraft subsystems and interfaces between them. 
  • Experience with requirements management, systems design, and integration. 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills. 
  • Confident in developing and testing operational procedures. 
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams. 
  • Must be able to complete and accomplish strict timelines. 
  • Develop and coordinate documentation change packages, ensuring thorough stakeholder review and organizing technical interchange meetings for resolving technical issues. 
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and quality. 
  • Ability to work in a quick-paced, small core team that leads technical discussions across a large technical community and influences teams across the Sierra Space Defense enterprise. 
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry. 
  • Experience with supporting 24/7 space operations. 
  • Previous Spacecraft Operator experience.  
  • Strong skills in data analysis and interpretation, particularly in the context of spacecraft telemetry and performance data. 
  • Strong technical writing skills for creating detailed documentation and reports

COMPENSATION

Pay Range:

$116,160.00 - $159,720.00

Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness. 

Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements:

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps

  • Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity

  • Rarely lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.


Working Conditions:

  • Rarely exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)

  • Rarely exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials

  • Rarely exposed to loud noises

This position requires current/active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment.
