Job description

In the role of an Optomechanical Engineer, the responsibilities will include the qualification and acceptance testing of optical systems, high-precision actuators, and integrated system-level testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Development: Design and develop optomechanical systems, including optical components, mechanical structures, and alignment mechanisms. Ensure designs meet mission requirements and industry standards.
  • Integration: Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate optomechanical systems into spacecraft and satellite platforms. Ensure compatibility with other systems and components.
  • Testing and Validation: Develop and execute test plans for optomechanical systems. Perform performance and reliability testing to validate system functionality and compliance with specifications.
  • Analysis: Conduct optical and mechanical analysis to ensure system performance and reliability. Use modeling and simulation tools to predict and evaluate system behavior.
  • Problem-Solving: Address and resolve technical issues related to optomechanical systems. Troubleshoot problems and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and technical manuals. Ensure documentation is accurate and complies with company standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including optical engineers, mechanical engineers, and mission planners, to resolve integration and performance issues.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Optomechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in optomechanical engineering or a similar role, with experience in designing and developing optomechanical systems for aerospace or high-tech industries.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of optomechanical system design, optical components, mechanical structures, and alignment mechanisms. Proficiency with engineering tools and software for design and simulation (e.g., Zemax, SolidWorks, ANSYS).
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: Master’s degree in Optomechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in optomechanical engineering, with significant experience in aerospace or space technology sectors. Experience with spacecraft or satellite systems is a plus.
  • Advanced Skills: Expertise in advanced optomechanical systems design and integration techniques. Familiarity with high-precision optical systems, thermal control systems, and space-qualified components.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in optomechanical or optical engineering are a plus.
  • Industry Experience: Extensive experience working in aerospace or space technology sectors, including understanding of the unique requirements and challenges associated with optomechanical systems for space missions.
  • Innovation: Demonstrated ability to drive innovation in optomechanical system design and implementation, contributing to the development of cutting-edge space technologies.
