Job description

Orbex are looking for an experienced Quality Inspector to assists with development of our carbon fibre structures. You will be responsible for conducting detailed inspections and tests on a variety of products and materials, ensuring they comply with all relevant specifications and standards.

Orbex is a leading micro-launch company with our Prime vehicle being prepared to launch from our home spaceport, Space Hub Sutherland. We are well placed to be one of the first operational micro-launch companies in Europe with over €122m of project financing secured, a number of customers signed up, launch licence application submitted, and backing from organisations including UKSA and ESA.

Having developed in-house production capability, we can 3D print complex engines, produce full-scale carbon composite fuel tanks, and have avionics and software testing labs in both Scotland and Denmark. Based in Copenhagen, you will be right in the heart of this fast-paced cutting-edge company, using your skills to build a new launch vehicle for a buoyant commercial market.

The Position
Your role may evolve beyond what is listed below and includes the following tasks and responsibilities:
  • Monitor and update Quality Management System documentation as directed
  • Conduct audits and technical investigations, write detailed reports, and provide recommendations
  • Liaise with Internal departments to draft reports, correspondence, maintain records and files
  • Initiate corrective actions, assess response plans, and conduct follow-up verifications
  • Conduct quality product conformance and verifications, writing reports and initiating appropriate action
  • Perform audit reviews and updates, by communicating with auditees on status and resolution
  • Process Material Rejections and Non-Conformances and extract computer data for statistical reports
  • Responsibility for monitoring and calibrating inspection equipment, ensuring that all tools are in proper working order and capable of delivering precise measurements
  • Liaise with internal departments and external customers on quality matters, draft reports, and assist in preparing Quality Documentation
  • Participate in and support delivery of Quality and Compliance training programs

Key Qualifications and Experience
  • Previous experience and certification in Quality Assurance / Quality Control, ideally from an Aerospace, Engineering, Manufacturing, Oil and Gas or Military backgrounds
  • Background in process, quality or manufacturing of high precision carbon composite materials
  • Ability to introduce and implement Quality System Procedures
  • Experience in writing detailed and technical reports with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including SharePoint and Visio
  • Awareness and commitment to Internal Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental policies
  • Ability to use Autodesk, AutoCad, Inventor or Solid works would be beneficial
Desirable skills and experience:
  • Experience in the application of ISO9001 or AS9100 Quality Management standards
  • It would be desirable that you have a general mechanical flair, experience and knowledge within manufacturing and mechanical engineering.

Location
Our roles need to be on-site in Scotland due to the nature of the position, export controls and security. This role is based in Forres at Orbex’s headquarters. 
Orbex Forres is located at the foot of the Scottish Highlands, near Inverness. It's close to the spectacular coastline, wild beaches, and amazing wildlife of the Moray Firth, as well as being a short distance from the world-famous Loch Ness, and Aviemore ski resort. 
If you enjoy adventurous outdoor pursuits in extraordinary natural environments, the coast and highlands around Forres offer an ideal location. 
Mountaineering, rock climbing, abseiling, hiking, mountain biking, cycling, camping, sailing, surfing, motorbiking, and skiing are all within easy reach of our main UK factory, and many members of our team participate in adventure sports in the vast, beautiful settings of Sutherland.

Security
You must be a UK or European citizen or from a country that is a signatory to the MTCR convention. You will be required to obtain CTC clearance for the role.
