Job description
At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
As part of a small, hardworking, and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for developing and qualifying the next generation of motor inverters and variable frequency drives in support of the New Glenn mission. This will require coordinating with multi-functional engineering teams to assure successful design qualification per company and industry standards.
We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!
Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
- Develop new inverter design across the entire product life cycle, from concept and requirements definition, design, analysis, prototyping, schematic capture, layout, design review, test/verification (power-on, functional / acceptance / qualification testing) and through release to production.
- Support architecture trade studies, analyses, performance characterization and specification, device selection, and product roadmap direction.
- Support design risk analyses, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), design for test/manufacture/cost (DFx), and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies.
- Effectively communicate development status, risks, and challenges to management.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, or related fields
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience in electrical engineering design with a focus in power electronics systems.
- Experience with analog, digital or mixed-signal circuit design, including analysis, simulation, test, troubleshooting, and part selection.
- Familiar with many of the following parts and their usage: ADCs, DACs, Op-Amps, power supplies (linear, LDO, DC/DC), processors, MOSFETs, and IGBTs
- Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases of the electronic assembly product lifecycle
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, or related fields
- Experience with radiation effects on electronics
- High-voltage power electronic design experience
- Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE, and PSIM or similar modeling/analysis tools
- Hands-on experience with operating lab test equipment for design validation
- Experience developing products from early trade studies through final design, manufacturing, and testing
Compensation range for on-site WA applicants is $102,320-$144,522
Other site ranges may differ
Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.
