Job description
Kepler is on an audacious mission: to bring the internet to space. Founded in 2015, our ambition is to provide internet connectivity in space, whether in LEO, MEO, GEO, or beyond. With an expanding base of early customers and our first 23 satellites in orbit, Kepler is continuing to grow and expand its most important asset – the Team!
As a Senior Antenna Engineer at Kepler, your primary responsibility will be leading antenna development projects for our satellite communications payloads. Additionally, as a broader member of the RF and Antenna team, you will assist with overall payload and communications systems architecture.
Responsibilities:
- Act as technical lead/responsible engineer on antenna development projects including passive, active, omni-directional, directional and phased array antennas.
- Bring antenna development projects all the way from conception through design, manufacture, test and deployment.
- Support system architecture including the writing of design documents and proposals.
- Design all aspects of antennas: radiating elements, feed networks, active components, radomes, lattice structures.
- Assist in schematic capture, layout, drawings and DFM of antenna PCBs or structures.
- Support the manufacturing and procurement of antennas.
- Design and conduct antenna and RF system performance testing both on- and off-site. This includes near- and far-field testing, array calibration and OTA testing.
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines such as mechanical and systems engineers to integrate antennas into the overall spacecraft payload.
- Coach and mentor more junior members of the teams on responsible antenna development projects.
- Researching and incorporating both industry best practices as well as cutting edge technology into Kepler’s antenna design process.
Requirements:
- Master’s or PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent.
- 7+ years experience professionally designing antennas with at least 1-2 years coaching/mentoring more junior team members on design projects.
- Extensive experience with antenna simulation tools (CST, HFSS, EMPro etc.) and RF circuit simulation tools (ADS, Microwave Office, etc.).
- Extensive experience with antenna/RF measurements using standard RF test equipment: spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, vector signal generators, near- and far-field systems.
- Experience developing or working on satellites communication antennas is desired.
- Experience and understanding of overall communication systems design, link budgets, air interface standards, radio designs is desired.
