About the Team:
Relativity Space’s legal team is small, nimble, and entrepreneurial: a startup within a startup. Our team is responsible for identifying and managing risks across the organization to ensure Relativity is adequately protected through its rapid growth. Our legal team manages intellectual property, contracts, and compliance, among other responsibilities. Unique to Relativity’s fast-paced startup environment, our team has broad exposure to the business has frequent opportunities to work cross functionally to support Relativity’s ambitious goals.
Relativity is looking for an entrepreneurial counsel or compliance professional to take primary responsibility for the enhancement and implementation of Relativity Space’s Compliance Program & policies. The Senior Manager, Legal of Compliance will play a critical role in developing and implementing company-wide compliance programs tailored to Relativity’s operations, conducting risk assessments of current activities, and ensuring adherence to legal standards and ethical practices. The position will work cross functionally business consistently with the Company’s values and preserve its reputation for business integrity and ethics.

About the Role:
- Report to the Director, Assistant General Counsel, Regulatory and Transactions, and work cross functionally with the Company’s Trade Compliance, Security, Employee Relations, and Communications functions to provide oversight and development of programmatic compliance programs and procedures to ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Work closely with Relativity’s Senior Program Manager for Trade Compliance to manage risk and ensure compliance with U.S. export laws and regulations.
- Plan and implement the policies and processes used to manage enterprise risk across the Company.
- Support policy development and contract compliance for Relativity’s federal programs.
- Develop and deliver training on various topics for Company employees, with special emphasis on Ethics and Compliance Programs, and government contracting obligations.
- Represent the Legal Team within the company to expand the team’s ability to provide in-person guidance and support across a variety of compliance issues.
About You:
- The successful candidate will have at least 7+ years of relevant compliance experience, gained at a law firm, consulting firm, or U.S.-based corporate in-house legal or ethics and compliance department, managing and advising on compliance and ethics risks, and regulations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. export laws and regulations.
- Experience working with FARS/DFARS and other government procurement regulations
- Proven ability to provide practical, flexible, risk-adjusted advice to business stakeholders and senior leadership.
Nice to haves but not required:
- A J.D. and to be licensed to practice law in California or the District of Columbia.
- Experience managing approval of export authorizations.
- Experience as an Empowered Official as part of a company’s trade compliance program.
- Experience working in or with the aerospace and/or the marine industry.
- Experience developing Enterprise Risk Management Programs.
- Experience building a Compliance program in a start-up or early-stage company environment.
