At Vast, our mission is to contribute to a future where billions of people are living and thriving in space. We are building artificial gravity space stations, allowing long-term stays in space without the adverse effects of zero-gravity. Our initial crewed space habitat will be Haven-1, scheduled to be the world’s first commercial space station when it launches into low earth orbit in August 2025. This opening is for two positions, one at our Long Beach, CA office and one at our Washington, D.C. office. Both will be 12-week internships.

Vast offers an internship program with hands-on opportunities to be part of our mission. Our legal interns work at the forefront of space law across a variety of in-house legal domains (contracts, IP, regulatory compliance, etc.) all in support of building the world’s first commercial space station.

Responsibilities will vary depending on each intern’s area of expertise and location in Long Beach or Washington, D.C. We are currently looking for candidates with experience in the following disciplines:

Legal Research
Legal Writing and Analysis
Information gathering
Long Beach internship only: Legal operations development and enhancement (including contract lifecycle management and other legal ops tools)
Washington, D.C. internship only: Space policy legislation and regulatory research and analysis

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must be enrolled in a Juris Doctor (JD) degree program from an accredited law school.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to work full-time onsite
Attention to detail
Ability to work autonomously and problem-solve
Prior knowledge of relevant tools for legal research
A positive and curious attitude with team spirit

Pay Rate:

$38/hr

Salary Range: California

$38—$38 USD

Salary Range: Washington D.C.

$38—$38 USD

Base salary will vary depending on job-related knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand. Salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package. U.S. EXPORT CONTROL COMPLIANCE STATUS

The person hired will have access to information and items subject to U.S. export controls, and therefore, must either be a “U.S. person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62 or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing. This status includes U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents (green card holders), and asylees and refugees with such status granted, not pending.
