AOA Xinetics (AOX), a wholly owned Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Payload and Ground Systems Division Business Unit, is a leading supplier of complex electro-optic and photonic systems and subsystems that control and manipulate light waves for a variety of applications. We are seeking a Product Engineer to support our Special Programs team in East Hartford, CT.

This position may be filled as either a Product Engineer (level 2) or Principal Product Engineer (level 3).

 

Overview

Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Product Engineer will perform Manufacturing Engineering support to Special programs production. this includes sustaining engineering and new product transition from design engineering to the production group.

 

Role and Responsibilities:

The Product Engineer will be responsible for production support engineering with respect to testing methods, procedures, problem solving, electro-optic assembly specification and yield issues, minor redesign of assemblies, analysis of customer returns, and optimizing device production relative to cost constraints. This individual assumes responsibility for device transfer from engineering to production and is usually responsible for supporting the entire device manufacturing operations.

 

Basic Qualifications for a Product Engineer (Level 2):

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or other applicable degree; with minimum 2 years related experience, OR minimum 0 years' experience with a Master’s degree. Four years’ experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree

  • Experience with alignment, assembly, bonding, and testing of precision opto-mechanical, fiber optic, micro-optic, and small mechanical components. Experience in Cable harness and Electronics/PCBs testing a plus

  • Detail oriented and with the desire to constantly improve the production environment, processes, and documentation

  • Experience assembling bills of materials and writing engineering change orders

  • Some experience working with a materials requirements planning (MRP) system

  • Comfortable working as part of an integrated team including technicians, engineers, program managers, and research scientists

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to read mechanical drawing schematics and understand basic Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

  • Must be a self-starter and able to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced, highly technical work environment

  • Basic experience with SolidWorks or equivalent drawing package

  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills

  • U.S. Citizenship is a bona fide requirement

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  • Same as for a Level 2 with the addition of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Optical Engineering with minimum 5 years related experience, OR a minimum 3 years' experience with a Master’s degree. Four years’ experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree

  • Experience in Cable harness and Electronics/PCBs

  • Experienced MRP system user (Costpoint preferred)

  • Ability to review mechanical drawing schematics and check Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Experienced CAD user (Solidworks preferred)

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree and 4 plus years’ experience in Electrical or Optical Engineering

  • Active Top Secret with SCI clearance

Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00Salary Range 2: $97,500.00 - $146,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
